  1. Yeah I am keeping them under, thanks for the advice though, last time I had to take a couple of items out and had a random shoe in my hand luggage. Did you fly american airlines btw? I was just looking and I think it seems my 3rd bag will be twice the cost of the 2nd eek. Think I will have to pass on the 4th.

  2. Hey I am flying american Airlines Tuesday and I am packing up my stuff to go. I was going to take 3 suitcases to check, has anyone done this recently and know the fee? I though it would be $60 a piece and was considering a 4th but I just looked now and I don't know if the 3rd and every additional would be $150.

Please help if you have any idea, I don't know if I have to rearrange my packing to leave some stuff behind now.

    Thanks

  3. Thanks for all the info everyone. I am finishing packing as quickly as possible now but my 3rd suitcase is nearly full and I wonder if I should just squash it as best I can or leave stuff because I'm moving to Michigan and I only got my super winter coat last year and I really wanted to pack it. Do you think 4 cases would be overkill or okay?

I will look into how long I have to ship my stuff without having to pay import duty and I will have to get a move on with that. I can at least get the main important stuff shipped that I have boxed already shipped and worry about the old stuff kept for memories and stuff at a later date. I'm sure that's of less issue to them when charging me than the rest of my clothes, shoes, books etc that I have mostly boxed up. Hopefully there is a couple of years on that though so we can get totally sorted with a house or I'll be looking for a storage unit hehe.

Thanks for all the help. Fingers crossed for finding a cart

  4. I am going to ship a lot of my stuff at a later date as I live at home with my parents and can leave it with them for now but I wanted to take 2-3 suitcases with me when I leave. I know i have to pay extra for each suitcase and that's okay but I was wondering what happens at immigration and customs? Do I have to declare all my stuff as I am emigrating to the US on a K1 visa? and will I have to pay import duty on my stuff.

Also with having so much luggage when I pick it up in Chicago I will struggle at the carousel without a trolly cart thing to put them on. I just wondered in the UK we have to put a £1 coin in, is this the same in the US/Chicago? Just so I can make sure I have the coin ready, thanks so much for all your help.

  5. Just had my interview on the 13th and it was for 9am too. I was in the queue at about 8.05 and in and seated with my number by 8.15. Took till 10.25 to be called up the first time for my documents and then was called up about 10-15 mins later, spoken to and told I was approved and was paid and out by 11. I think if you get there early you should be okay, I don't know if that gave me an earlier number at all and helped but I wanted out as soon as possible. Just make sure you have everything and i'm sure you will make the train okay. Good luck and I hope it all goes well and quickly for you.

  6. if you have your case number and the documents you need book your medical now. When I first called them before I had all this they said it was usually a weeks wait but when I was ready it was then almost a 3 week wait for the first appointment so I would suggest that you book as soon as you can. I believe they get the results in 5 days and after the embassy received this and has processed your documents and received the checklist they send you a letter out with your interview date. My medical was June 8th and my interview was July 13th. I had submitted all my documents and checklist before my medical. Hope this helps you some, others may have more information for you too. Good luck with your medical and interview.

  7. After being so nervous for my interview on Wednesday it went a lot easier than I thought. My appointment was at 9 but I got there at 8 and after a short wait for security I had my number and was seated by 8.15. I was waiting till about 10.20 before I was called up for the first time to submit my documents. I then went up to the window handed in my documents, photos and fingerprints. I was given a pink form to fill my postage details out on for delivery and went to sit back down. I had to ask someone for a pen and filled this out. Started reading my book again while settling in for what I thought would be another long wait, while thinking I should of brought a second book. 5-10 mins later I was called up again and was thinking they needed more documents off me and it was actually for my interview. I had to re do my fingerprints, was given back my original birth certificate and police record back. Then I was asked to raise my right hand and swear I was telling the truth. I was then asked to write my fiances name and sign a form, at this point I believe my hand was shaking and I was asked how we met. After answering this one question I was asked if we were getting married and I said yes on the 10th of September and I was then told I was approved. I think I said thank you about 5 times and then went to pay for delivery.

I was told I would get my passport back and the envelope to open at poe and I was done.

So glad that it is done and so happy that I will be with my fiance soon.

I was just wondering do they give me a form when I go through immigration? or do they just take the stuff off me and send me on my way?

Thanks so much and thanks for all the support and questions I have had answered on here. I am sure I will have tons more for AOS.

  8. This may seem like a totally silly question as I believe I only needed the ESTA from for travelling with the Visa Waiver Programme but mine expires 4th August. My interview is 13th July and I will hopefully be in the US by then. I just wanted to check that I didn't have to renew this at all as I will then, fingers crossed, have my K1

    Thanks

  9. Thanks for all the help everyone, if anyone else has any info that would be really great I really appreciate it.

I hope that I am as lucky as you and get my visa in the 3 days too, it would make me so happy.

little_g I hope the interview goes well, yeah he should take a book. I don't know if I will be to nervous to read it though. I know I have been lazy with my timeline, we filed in December I think it was 19th or 20th. My medical was June 8th but I had to wait about 3 weeks for that they were so busy so I am just really glad to have this interview date.

  10. I have my interview in 2 weeks and while I have all my affidavit of support and tax returns from my fiance his parents are co sponsoring us just in case of any problems. Anyway my question is they file their tax return jointly so just to be sure I have the affidavit filled in by both of them. I ahve been reading the interview reviews and noticed a couple of people mention birth certificates of co sponsored are needed. Is this true? If I need a copy of this I will have to get it sent over this week and also do I need a copy of my fiances birth certificate or passport? Everyday I am thinking of more and more things and fretting that I am missing something.

    Thanks so much :)

  11. Hi, my interview is in London on the 13th July and I am now really nervous. I have looked over the link they sent me and I just wanted to make sure I hvae everything and if someone who has been for the interview had posted a checklist of everything to have. Also my interview is at 9am, what time should I get there? I assume I will have to queue to get in and through security so should I get there at about 8? is that early enough or too early? Also i know I can't take in electrical items and key fobs. I just wanted to check am I okay with a purse with cards and a hotel key card? Also could I take a book and maybe a small drink? How long are you usually there? My fiance is back in the US now so sadly he can't go with me.

Another question is how long does it usually take to get your passport back from them, is there anyway to pay extra to get it back quicker? Also can this fee be paid by card or does it have to be cash?

Lastly I think I noticed someone said clearing immigration at the POE it took around 4 hours. Does it usually take so long? and which is generallyt eh best POE. I usually fly into O'hare but I could possibly do somewhere else. Oh and while you are waiting for your information to be processed what happens to your suitcases. I get so paranoid about my cases I would hate for them to be sitting there alone for so long. I know no one will take it but I alway have that fear.

Thank you for any help and answers, I really appreciate them.

  12. I was just wondering as my fiance is self employed my future inlaws have said that they will be co sponsor for us in case there is any problems with the paperwork as we will be living with them for a while anyway. I just wanted to know is there a specific form that they would have to fill out? We just want the whole interview process to go as smoothly as possible. Thanks so much!

  13. Thank you thats great. I just want to check in the letter I recieved from the embassy which directed me to the internet to get the forms I was told to send DS-156k and ut says the following documents must be attached, birth certificate and police certificate. Do they have to be originals and do they have to be sent now? I thought they were just taken to the interview? Also with photos and other evidence do they have to be sent now or are thye just taken to the interview? Thanks so much, I am just worried about making a mistake. I'm sure this gets asked all the time
