Hi everyone! Took my oath today in Brooklyn, NYC. Lots of waiting around but well worth it.

Congratulations to those who already got their citizenship and good luck to the rest!

Oath:

The call time is 8:30 AM. Due to traffic and rain, I got there at 9:20. I was stressing out the entire trip as I was not sure if I won't be let in. I went up to second floor where a lady awaits. She asked for my GC and appointment letter. She mad sure the back part has been filled out. She then made me go inside this huge court room/hall. We were seated in order of our time of arrival. The first person who got there will be called first. At around 10, the officers started calling us, row by row, for our documents. I only handed my GC and appointment letter. The letter was given back to us. Then we had to check our info on the Certificate of Naturalization, to made sure everything is correct. After that, the officers started calling the people with name changes. This took about 10 minutes. A gentleman from Commission on Human Rights then took the floor and spoke about discrimination, our rights, etc. Then, 2 other people spoke and handed out voter registration forms. They explained how important it is for us to vote not just on Federal elections, but also for city and state elections. There were about 300 of us taking the oath that day. A lot of seats are vacant so they let the guests stay inside the hall to witness the oath taking. This is different from what my in-laws experienced 2 weeks ago. The guests can only watch on the projector screen on the 3rd floor. I'm guessing it's because the room was full. Finally, the judge came. Made us take our oath and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. We took our seats and he gave a short speech -about 5 minutes long. After that, the judge left and the officers started handing out the certificates. In exchange, you have to give them the oath date letter. You can leave after that. I was out by 11:40. So it pretty much just took me 2+ hours.

I rushed across the street to apply for my passport at the Cadman Plaza post office. I'm glad I did because the a lot of people started lining up. It takes about 5 minutes for the agent to finish your application so just imagine if you have 10 people ahead of you. Also note that you can't use your credit card to pay for the passport. It can only by debit, cash or money order. I did debit but what he pretty much did was use my card to buy a postal money order. If you did not bring a passport photo, you can get yours taken there for $15. It's pretty pricey so try to get your picture taken ahead of time.

So that's it! I'm done with USCIS!

I received the email and text notification that my oath was scheduled yesterday. Lo and behold, the oath letter came in the mail today -- I take my oath next Thursday. For the NYC applicants, the oath ceremony will be at Brooklyn. Yay! Happy Holidays everyone!!

I had my interview yesterday at the LIC office in Queens, NYC and passed it.

Got in at 8:02am and my appointment was for 8:25am but didn't get called until sometime after 9:30am.

The waiting room had a decent amount of people when I got in and I expected about a two hour wait.

The officer was no non-sense and she barely exchanged plesantries which was fine by me. I had the civics test where she asked me the questions, I answered and she wrote them down verbatim. I was under the impression that I will be the one who had to write the answers down. Not a big deal but was this the case for everyone? I read a simple question and wrote a simple sentence the officer dictated.

She went over my application, never asked for original documents or supporting evidence (I brought all the latest evidence that I submitted with the N400 application). She only asked about a trip I took with my family this past August and asked me multiple times (all separate) if I wanted to change my name as I have several names. The officer mentioned that my name was too long and may give problems with the certificate. I never had a problem with the other applications (I-481, I-765, N-400) until she made a comment. I told her that I want to keep my name as is to keep the uniformity & consistency of all my documents (didn't want the headache of changing it). She told me I was approved and if I'd like to wait 1.5 hours, I can get my Oath Letter. I chose to have it mailed which the officer said will take 7-10 days.

Now, just awaiting the Oath Letter. Does anyone know how long the oath ceremony is scheduled after the interview? I'm currently 7.5 months pregnant, due at the end of January but I think this baby might be coming earlier than that. Would hate to re-schedule the ceremony.

Received my interview letter today, updating info.

I called on the 14th just to check and I received an email (no text though) on the 15th that they sent the interview letter out.

Expect an update/text/email soon.

Does anyone know if the interview is normally about a month from when the interview letters are scheduled?

I'm due to give birth towards the end of January 2015 and I'm hoping that the interview/oath process will take place before then.

I know NYC is backlogged but what are the chances of me being done with all of the process before the year is up?

Just called uscis to check on my case was silent since July 18th the lady said I have to wait till 90 days which is oct. 18 th. To call again

What's the proposed wait time for the interview date letter? I was placed in-line for interview on July 18 and haven't received my interview letter yet. I checked the processing time for NYC and it said that they're still working on December applications. Is it me or all the processing have slowed down significantly? I was hoping to get my interview done before the year is up. Any chance of this happening? Congrats and good luck to those who will be going on their interviews soon.

I just got an e-mail that I'm in line for interview as of today, 06/26! That was quick!

cestlaviecherie, Priority Date is the date you were entered in their system and put in the queue for biometrics. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that date is important because you can track what is the priority date your Field Office is working on, for your type of application.

Received my biometrics letter today. What does the "Priority Date" mean on the letter?

This is what they say they require if you are applying based on marriage, from this checklist on the USCIS site: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/article/attachments.pdf

Clearly they seem interested in joint taxes but if you look at the documents referring to you and your spouse it says on a. Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages OR birth certificates of children. So I think you'll be ok with what you have.

I'm not sure what the form 1722 is. I've looked it up on www.irs.gov and www.uscis.gov and can't find any reference to that. Where did you read that information?

I know that for the interview they ask you to bring your DL, passports and travel documents, etc...but not sure about that form you mentioned.

alix, I made a mistake. I was looking at a super old set of instructions for the N400 interview.

if applying under the 3-year rule, then you may need to submit additional documents.

Oh, didn't mean to make you second guess yourself and I don't think you messed up. You are right since, that is exactly what the instructions asked for.

I have been reading on VJ and some people have added other documents. I shall be removing some of the extra documents in my packet.

I have read the Document Checklist about a hundred times and only now that you pointed it out did I see 'or' after 4a.

I must be going blind. There was so much needed for the I751 and I'm finding it odd that for the N400, they aren't requiring the same.

Is there any particular reason why you are sending all these documents?
I'm asking because I only sent:
- N-400
- photos
- check
- copy of GC
- copy of husband's Birth certificate
- copy of marriage license
- tax return transcripts from 2011 till 2013
I'm planning to bring more stuff to the interview just in case but on the instructions they requested only one set of docs for proof of marriage so I sent only one (tax return transcripts).
Are you doing that just to be on the safe side?
Please don't get me wrong, I'm trying to figure out if I might have messed up!

I will be sending out my application sometime in the next few days as well. I can't help but notice that the required documents for the N400 isn't as extensive as the I751.

This is what I have so far:

-apartment lease agreement and rental receipts (2009 to present)

-husband's 401K beneficiary designation

-copy of marriage certificate

-copy of auto insurance policy

-husband's birth certificate

-our son's birth certificate

Several questions:

1. Do I need to include credit card statements solely under my name? We have fully paid out all our other credit cards and have only used a joint credit card since Jan 2014.

2. Utility bills are only in my husbands name. Do I need to include them?

3. Are vacation itineraries & pictures acceptable?

Yeah, there should be another e-mail with the tracking number...ours came about 5 days after the message you just received, but we were on some kind of slow motion track

Then after that, you'll receive another e-mail telling you it that according to their records, it was delivered.

About that mystery guy...I really don't think they would be sending an investigator out at this point...if that was going to happen, it would have happened much earler, before you were approved. Also, if he saw you, I'm guessing a USCIS investigator would have turned around and come back. I'm thinking it's some kind of door-to-door thing going on there.
