  1. I know there's some credits that non-residents aren't entitled to claim, or that you have to be a resident on December 31st 2011 to claim. Hopefully your accountant will be able to figure out if they made a mistake or if your assessment is wrong. I've worked for a few accounting firms over the years, and sometimes due to holidays, deadlines, projects, the "newbies" are given the task of entering tax returns that are above their level and unfortunately sometimes if they've forgotten (not known to) click a box, and the person reviewing the file doesn't realize the clients life changes, they don't look for these errors.

  2. Is this possibly because you entered on a K1 visa. I'm shipping my items on Tuesday and the lady at the company said I had everything but the I-94 which I would receive when I cross, and that I have to scan and send it to her before they will ship my stuff.

Hopefully some of the more knowledgeable VJers can weigh in on this.

  3. Just wanted to update, I got a medical for tomorrow morning!!!

Their office called me back this morning (while I was trying their office again lol) and left me a voicemail saying either tuesday or wednesday I could come  and to call back to confirm, called back left another voicemail, they called back right away and confirmed my appt for tomorrow morning and cancelled the one in July.

They also responded to both my emails (fri and this morning) saying the same thing as the voicemail. So both methods worked for me. Good luck to everyone!!!

  4. I called them last Friday morning and left a message that I was hoping to get a medical done quickly as I'd only be in Toronto for a week. They called me back Friday afternoon with a Monday a.m. appointment. $300 cash, bring your passport photos, passport and interview letter and you are good. They had me come back Mon afternoon to do some immunizations that I couldn't show records for. Picked up the results Wed at noon. I thought the Toronto medical was super efficient.

Thanks TommyinToronto. I'm hoping that I'll get a call or email back monday saying I can come for Tuesday morning, fingers crossed.

Tommy they have interview dates available for the June 26th, if you've already got your medical done, you could try to get one so you don't have to wait til July.

  5. Has anyone been able to get a medical the same week they call? I was able to reschedule my interview for June 26th, but now I have to try to get a medical next week, I called but their office was closed and I don't think they're open again until Monday and I need the medical for Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Please someone tell me its possible, I'm freaking out!

  6. Toocool I'm pretty sure we talked to the same girl.

I took the advice Neela posted in this thread Montreal Interviews

My interview was scheduled for July 16th, I got an interview for June 26th. There are still interviews available on that date, so call NVC 603-334-0700 and see if they have booked your interview and if your case has been sent to Montreal.

    Good luck

  7. Hey everyone, I took Neela's advice and called today and got an appt for June 26th. My interview was scheduled for July 16th. Now just have to get my medical changed to next week

Has anyone else tried to get an earlier date?

  8. Welcome - you can do your self a favour by ensuring that you have documents ready for future steps. Long birth certificates, divorce decrees from former marriages (if applicable). The Cdn citizen can ensure their immunizations (http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/schedules/adult-schedule.htm#print ) are up to date long before the medical (so many people scrambled at the last minute...why bother!)

Here is 1 of the Panel physicians who do them http://www.panelphysicians.com/ ...you can't the medical done yet, but get ready for it by reading ahead.

Udella&Wiz has a good point about the immunizations especially with two kids, make sure all their shots and vaccinations are up-to-date and remember you'll need to get their long-form birth certificates too.

  9. Hi Helen,

I'm Canadian and just changed my name and posted a thread on this:

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/305481-name-change/page__p__4612656#entry4612656

From everything I've read on here, since I want to get my green card and all other US documents in my married name, I had to change my name or these would be issued in my maiden name, since these documents are supposed to match the name that's in your passport.

Your situation may be different if you are in the US and already have a SSN.

    Good luck in your journey,

    Tsylana
