  1. A friend of mine had her interview in January and was approved. She got her visa in her passport and moved here permanently on Thursday. She was wondering if she has to go into social security and apply for her card or will they automatically send it to her in the mail.

Please let me know so I can pass the info on to her.

    Thanks,

    Melliemel

  4. Hi,

I am writing on behalf of my friend.

She just received her interview letter for January 12th and she was setting up her account for the DHL service. She began setting it up and when it asks for the reason she choose "permanently immigrating to the US (NVC)" (can't remember the exact wording) is this correct? When she went to schedule and the first available date was March 22 2011...is this correct? What is this whole set up exactly for?

Help on this will be greatly appreciated. This is new to me. When I did my immigration stuff 5 years ago we got our visa the next day.

    Thanks again...

    On behalf of JenNiaz...

  5. Hi,

I have a friend waiting for her interview (her case was completed August 10th) and I was just wondering. When I had went for my interview 5 years ago I received my visa the next day in my passport. Do they still do this? or has the process changed? Can someone please explain to me what it is she should be prepared for and how long she should be prepared to stay. If they still give the visa the next day she will stay the extra day.

FYI She is on a CR1

    Thanks,

    melliemel

  6. Hello All,

I am helping out a friend of mine to remove her conditions. We send out the following evidence in November 2009

    Various Birthday and Valentines Cards

    Copy of Marriage Certificate

Joint Tax Returns 2007-2008 (They were married in 2006)

    Joint Checking and Savings Account

Her Paycheck to show proof of employment and address

Copy of both of their passports with Stamps showing they travelled together

    Social Security Cards

    Her Green Card

Her Learners Permit to show proof of address

    JC Penny Credit Card Statement

3 Affidavits from family/friends explaining their relationship and knowledge of marriage etc

Various family pictures and wedding pictures

With all of this sent in they still sent a letter stating they they need MORE evidence.

Can someone help me out as to what else I can send?

They do not have medical insurance (can't afford it)

They do not have life insurance

they do not own a car

They only other piece of evidence that I have for them right now is a lease that we had written up. They live with his mother and brother but they do help out with the bills, grocery, mortgage for house etc.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Also, would sending in copies of their joint credit card help? They credit card is in his name but they both have a card under the same account.

Also keep in mind when we first sent in the evidence we showed more evidence for her and not for him

    Again,

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mellie

  7. Thank you Spider...That is what I thought is was just the wording that threw me off =D

Also, I received my green card in my maiden name but the rest of my documents are in my married name (drivers license, ssn etc) except for my passport. How do I get my new green card in my married name. I will be renewing my passport this year also with my married name.

I have had mixed answers to this question before..I just want to make sure that they do not send me back my paperwork. They did that to me when I was filing originally. I had filed under my married name but because my passport had my maiden name they made me redo my forms...

    Thanks again,

    Mellie

  8. Here is what the questions says....

"Have you ever been arrested, detained, charged, indicted, fined or imprisoned for breaking or violating any

law or ordianance (excluding traffic regulations), or committed any crime which you were not arrested in

    the United States or abroad?"

The part that confuses me is where it says "WERE NOT ARRESTED in the US or ABROAD"

What if you were arrested in the US but nothing came of it? I have all the documents stating that all charges were dropped.

Do I have to answer yes to this question?

    Thanks for any help...

  9. Good Day All,

It has been quite some time since I have been on these boards. So much has happened in the last 2 years. I am however enjoying my new home is the US =)

Now that my 2 years is coming up I know that I have to lift the conditions on my CR1 visa. My questions is does immigration send a notice with the forms to me or do I have to just start the paperwork myself? My green card expires 5/22/08 and 2/22/08 will be my 90 days.

Also, if I have moved do I have to let them know? If so what form do I use for that? I am still in the same state just a different address from my original filings.

One more question. I received my green card in my maiden name but the rest of my documents are in my married name (drivers license, ssn etc) except for my passport. How do I get my new green card in my married name. I will be renewing my passport this year also with my married name.

Thank you for all the help....

    Hello all,

I am need of some info from those of you that entered the US through Pearson International with a CR1 Visa.

When I entered I was sent to another room with my brown envelope in a yellow folder....My husband and I waited in the room until I was called. First I was fingerprinted and then had to wait again. I then noticed that they began processing my paperwork so I approached the officer and asked him if there was a way that I can have my visa processed in my married name instead of my maiden name. He gave me a hard time but in the end he explained to me that he filled out some paperwork and also changed the computer to show that I entered under my married name. (My passport has my maiden name) After all was done he took my ink fingerprint and took a copy of my marriage certificate and circled surnamed changed to .....(my married name) Anyway, when everything was done and over with he stamped my passport and said that if I don't get my greencard in time and I want to travel just ask the POE officer when I re-enter to validate my visa for another 6 months....I said fine and went on my way.

This was on May22nd. I still have received nothing from immigration regarding my greencard, my SSN NOTHING. I haven't even gotten my welcome letter. So I called USCIS. They would not take my call until I was in the US for 30 days or more. I finally called on the 22nd of June and they have no record of my entry into the US. They asked me for my A number and I explained to her that I do not have one. Apparently I was suppose to get my A number in my passport when I entered and now that I have no A number there is nothing I can do to be traced.

They told me that I would have to fill out a form (can't remember the number of the form) to have my greencard traced and that is the only way for me to get my greencard. This form has to be filled out AFTER 60 days in the US....The thing that really upsets me is that they advised me NOT TO TRAVEL. Also, I will not be getting my social until AFTER August if I am luck. Without my social I can not work, I can not apply to school etc...

Any advise or has anyone had this problem in the past. Please let me know...I am at a loss here. I don't know what to do anymore...

    thanks for any help...

Again, please e-mail responses to melliemel1179@yahoo.ca

  11. Hello,

    Thanks for the help.

I did check off on the DS230 to receieve my SSC. The married/maiden name problem is as follows.

When I first started my paperwork I applied under my married name. Then almost to the tail end of my process they changed all my papaer work to my maiden name. When I asked why they didn't have an answer but I figure it was because it was the name on my passport. When I entered the US through Pearson Airport in Toronto I requested to the POE officer that I would like my green card to come in my married name. He gave me a hard time at first but then explained that he submitted some paperwork and my green card should come in my married name.

When I went to SSA the other day they were like dogs. They were the most terrible people I have ever delt with. It's like they are mad because they have to work. Anyway, when she punched in my reg. number off my visa she said nothing is coming up. I was surprised and worried. Then she said she had to put me down as a suspect. BTW I had filled out a SS application and on the application I indicated my name as my married name and other names used as my maiden name. She got all huffy and puffy with me and said well you have one name in your passport (maiden) and another on your application (married) which one is it? I was extra upset at this time because of her tone of voice. I calmly explained to her my situation and even showed her my marriage certificate where it CLEARLY indicates that I have legally changed my name at time of marriage. She could care less to see my marriage certificate. Then rudely again she states. "SO WHICH ONE IS IT?" I just told her to put my married name. She says, "Well if Immigration doesn't have this name on file when they go to verify your documents you won't get you SSCard." I asked her if she could indicate both names as I do not know which one to use. OH FORGET THAT. She got so pi$$y. So I just left it as my married name and got the heck out of there =)

So that is my story with my married and maiden name. When I talked to USCIS Customer Service yesterday they said that if my green card comes in my maiden name to just let them know and they can have it changed. As for my SSCard. They said that the lady at the office should have taken a copy of my marriage certificate. Let's cross our fingers that this wonderful system we have can put 2 and 2 together.

  12. Hello All,

So I haven't been here in quite some time because I have problems accessing the site. I guess I can't access it because I have a secured internet connection with a firewall so I have to log on to an unsecured wireless network in order to access this site.....

Anyway, I wanted to tell you all my issue.

I arrived in NY on May 22nd. Since that date I have heard NOTHING from US Immigration. No letter, no I SS card.

So I went into SS office yesterday, they inputted my VISA registration #, nothing came up so they said they have entered me as a SUSPECT. I was shocked because the lady made me feel as though my documents were FAKE. There are other problems with this due to married vs maiden name. All in all I was very upset because they said this could take 6 to 8 weeks to verify. This upset me because 1. I am trying to register for school and 2. I need the number for Financial aide. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I called DOHS and they said that since it has not been 30 since I entered they can;t help me. WHAT THE =( that is garbage. They didn't even take my name. NOTHING!!!

What to do? I don't know. I am feel even more lost because I can't access this site whenever I want.

Please e-mail all replies to melliemel1179@yahoo.ca

    Thanks,

    Take care

BTW I love being here with my hubby. =)

  14. WOW great detail in that. I felt like I was there again.

I also had my interview on the 19th and I do remember you. You were at the front, you are a very young fellow =) I remember you because you were the first one in and the first one to leave. You were also alone correct? I sound like I was stalking you =)

My husband and I were sitting in the back of the room. Our number was C4 and our experience was also nice and easy like yours.

Congradulations. When are you planning on moving?

I am on my way out on May 22nd=)

    Best of luck =)

  15. Thanks so much for the quick responses.

So I am going to go to Motor Vehicles with my father and see what happens. After I do that then I will get the letter from Honda.

    One other concern.

I am moving (activating my visa) on May 19th but I am flying therefore I am not moving with ALL of my things including the car.

My husband and I are planning on returning on the 4th of July and would like to bring the remainder of my things. Including the car this time. Is this going to be a problem?

I have read somewhere that if you do not bring your vehicle with you then I would have to have an explaination for this.

    any views on this issue?

    Thanks as always

  16. Ok, I got a guide from this board and I can't seem to find it anymore. Anyway, I printed the guide, I have been reading it and I AM STILL CONFUSED.

Maybe someone who has brought their vehicle with them to the US can help me.

    Here is my situation.

I have a 2000 Honda Accord. (special edition) It is not technically MY CAR as it is in my dad's name. He has the ownership and insurance in his name. We have all agreed that I can take the car with me to the US.

I know I have to change all of that over but I am not too sure how.

Also, will this be a problem when I am ready to cross the boarder? Seeing that the car was not always in my name?

ALSO, what EXACTLY do I have to get in order to cross? What inspection sheets etc. Or is there somewhere that I can call to get correct information?

I am just so lost as you can see.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Mellie

    EI
