  1. Hi Todd,

Sorry your wife feels that way. I can relate with her but thank goodness to skype. I am a filipina and lives in Cincinnati. I too do not have many filipino friends here but glad I get along well :-). Where is your wife from? We can be friends on facebook :-).

Hello kamusta!

    Lhet,

  2. We received email confirmation from the USCIS that they received our AOS packet on January 23rd. Since then we have not heard one thing from them. I see on the forums many people have filed several months after us and have already received their green cards. I called USCIS three times with the same answer....that we need to wait. I have been very patient but no my patients, and my wifes are all used up. I see some people contacting their congressmen but receive what sounds like form letter responses. Does anyone have any input? I checked the January AOS filers thread but not much recent information has been posted.

  3. Ahh, of course.... I guess I was just thinking that Canada would not really care what your situation is in the US, but as it pertains to THIS situation, it would be in their best interest to know she could return. Thanks for pointing that out. :)

Thanks for all the replies. Now that we have received Advance Parole I think I am going to make one more attempt at gaining a tourist visa. I do understand that the Canadian government has the right to deny anyone other than Canadian citizens into the country. I hadn't realized how much more difficult and how much paperwork is involved for someone other than a U.S. citizen to travel to Canada. I travel to Ontario yearly and have so for nearly 20 years on a fishing trip. The same for this year, except for bringing my Filipino wife along. I hope it works out. Thanks again.

  4. The a.p. will allow her to reenter the U.S., the visa would have allowed her to enter Cananda. I filed for AOS nearly two months before I filed for the Canadian visa. I do understand that Canadian officials are concerned about the reentry back into the U.S. It would be much easier with the green card, just hoping to go at the end of May for my annual fishing trip and would love to take my wife.

Contacting Citizenship and immigration Canada is difficult as well. When the agent called, she continued cutting me off as I spoke or attempted to ask questions.

At this point, my wife has her a.p. so I wouldn't think the visa would be a problem but who knows?

  5. We received her work permit card in the mail last week. Upon checking her status on USCIS, it shows they approved and mailed out a form for advanced parole(travel) on March 14th, however we have yet to receive anything. I attempted to get through to speak to a live person, but have had no such luck. I even used the suggestions of a fellow V.J. member as for the prompts/extensions with no luck.

    Any suggestions?

Not sure how to delete this post. I see that the A.P. is on the E.A.D.

  6. We have a trip planned to visit Canada at the end of May. My wife filed for a tourist Visa to Canada before she received her AP( We filed AOS/AP/EAD January 23rd.) We received a call from an agent of the Citizenship/Immigration Canada office in Buffalo. The lady was very short, somewhat rude and did not allow us to ask any questions. We tried to explain to her that we filed for AP, but she would not listen, would not allow us to email receipt numbers, etc. She told us she would contact our U.S. Immigration counterparts and see where they were at in the process.

On March 14th, the A.P. was approved. On March 22nd we recieved a letter informing us that our Visa appliation to visit Canada was denied.

Has anyone else been in this situation that could offer some advice? My thought is to resubmit the Visa application with a copy of the A.P. card, but the agent seemed bothered that my fiancees K1 visa was expired(we filed for AOS 1/23/12). I don't want to lose another $75.00. If only the agent would have allowed me to answer the question I wouldnt be asking here.

    Thanks for the help.

  8. I am preparing the AOS packet. It is ready to be sent. The problem is, I am confused with the Ds-3025/I-693 forms. I read through the pinned posts with no luck. Question is, my wifes DS-3025. Under RESULTS, there is a checkmark by "Vaccine History Incomplete". Under that the box that is checkmarked says "Applicant may be eligible for blanket waiver(s) because vaccination(s) not medically appropriate(as indicated Above). What does that mean? Her medical was October, 2011, within the year. What do I need to do?

  9. Hello Todd,

The Filipino population is Ohio is massive. We're just north of Dayton. My asawa has been in US for nearly 5 years now (CR-1) and has assimilated very well. There's a huge group in the Dayton area - Philippine Americam Society of Greater Dayton - probaly mostly due to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in NE Dayton. There are two Fil-Am groups in Columbus, one in Cleveland. You'll have no trouble finding Filipino food at several markets in the vicinity. La Herba Buena (formerly Dublin area) is now closed, but will reportedly be re-opening soon in Hilliard. You'll also enjoy the giant Asian Festival in Columbus every Memorial day weekend. Good luck!!

    Mike and MJ

Maybe we just don't get out enough, LOL. I am glad to hear La Herba Buean may reopen in Hilliard. I am looking forward to the Asian festival this year. Thanks for the info!

La Herba Buena, sorry for the typo

  10. Thanks for the suggestions. Yes her sister has internet so she keeps in touch with her and the family through her sister. We went to the grocery store in Dublin but it is now out of business :( I did find another filipino grocery/restuarant on the East side of Columbus. If anyone would like that information let me know!

  11. My wife is starting to get a little homesick. I only know a couple of Filipinas in our area(we are meeting them New Years Eve). I was hoping to be able to find some Filipinas my wife could correspond with. I think it would really make her feel better. We were married 12-14-11. I know not having her family with her for the wedding bothered her and I am not sure what else I can do to make her feel better. I think having other Filipinas to talk with or email would definitely help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Todd

  13. My fiancee had a successful interview at the Manila embassy October 3rd. She is waiting for her visa/passport to be delivered, then she will attend the CFO seminar. When that is completed and I go there to pick her up, what do I need to know as far as leaving Manila? I understand I will have to pay a fee(other than the terminal fee) at the airport? Do I need to fill out anymore paperwork for her? Are there any different processes she will have to go through?

We will fly into Washington Dulles airport. What happens then? I assume she will go through a different customs line? I have searched for a link that would answer these questions but was unsuccessful. I really appreciate the help, tips and information!

  14. I read a great "walk through" post about the St Lukes medical exam. The post mentioned bringing the "appointment letter". I just scheduled our embassy interview today, which is October 3rd. Will a letter be sent to my fiancee, and is that the "appointment letter" she will need to bring with her to the medical, or is there another appointment letter? Does she have to have the appointment letter?
