  1. Hello everyone,

I was wondering what documents my fiance should make sure he has before immigrating to the US. He is going be bringing copies of his birth certificate, diploma, school transcripts, documents of employment history....is there anything else that he would need in order to start his new life here? He may either work or study during his first year here so we want to be prepared for anything and everything. Also, we want to make sure we are ready with all the needed documents for AOS.

    Are we missing anything?

As always, thanks for the help and advice :star:

  2. Follow this guide from VJ >>> http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

Those guidelines say to bring another form of ID. But then in the SSN instructions, it says that valid forms of identification are things like U.S. driver license or U.S. ID cards which my fiance will not have. I'm not sure if I'm reading the instructions carefully enough but it seems to suggest that identification from foreign countries may not be valid. What other forms of identification, besides the passport with the visa, would be acceptable?

  3. Hello everyone! I have two questions about applying for a social security number:

    1) The SSN instructions ask for two forms of identification. Will my fiance's passport and the k1 visa inside the passport meet those requirements? Is there any other type of identification that would also be valid? Birth certificate?

    2) I just want to confirm that k1 visa holder CAN apply for a social security number WITHOUT a EAD? Someone was telling me that my fiance would have to wait until his EAD came before applying for the SSN but from what I have been reading that doesn't true seem. Just wanted to double check on that.

    Thanks for the help :star:

  4. My fiance and I just received our NOA2 March 31 and our petition should be at the Peru consulate at any time now. I have been searching prices of plane tickets, because I will be traveling to Peru for the interview. I know there are a lot of threads already about buying roundtrip tickets instead of one way. I will need a roundtrip ticket starting in United States. We can buy my fiance a roundtrip ticket as well, but does his ticket have to go from Peru to United States and back to Peru? Or is it possible to buy two roundtrip tickets from United States to Peru and back? I'm not sure how to do this and still allow us to be on the same plane, sitting next to each other on the trip to United States. I'm sure I'm thinking wayyyy to into this, but any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not positive but I think if you buy a round trip ticket in the U.S. and you don't use the first trip of the ticket then it cancels your return ticket. You may need to buy a round trip ticket from Lima - US - Lima (which sucks cause it's more expensive!) for your fiance. Or one way (which, from the sites I've been looking at, seems to be almost the same price but with more stops).

  5. Yeah, I'm actually about to buy my fiance's plane ticket to the US with my credit card and I was wondering the same thing earlier today.

I don't recall ever being asked to show my credit card. Usually the people behind the counter just ask for the passport and are able to get the information they need to issue the boarding pass. However, one time a friend of mine was flying out from the U.S. and was asked to show the purchasing credit card (which he didn't have since his father bought him the ticket) and it created a huge problem - my friend missed his flight and had to purchase a new ticket (right before Christmas too )

So perhaps it depends on the airline? Maybe the airport? Any thoughts?

  6. Okay thanks for the reassurance and those are good points! I woke up this morning thinking about it and I couldn't stop. I felt like I needed someone to give me a good slap in the face. I'm sure the government and their agencies have the ability to access whatever information they want to on people. I like my privacy but this process is so intrusive that I never know how much information is too much and what I am actually allowed to keep to myself...

  7. Hello everyone. I think I'm becoming super paranoid because of all the documents and paperwork involved in the process. We recent had our visa approved (yay!) and I demonstrated my financial support by providing my bank statements, savings accounts and assets. I have a considerable amount of money in my savings and from assets. Now I'm just paranoid by the fact that the POE agent and any stranger who works at the USCIS could potentially look at our file and have all the information one would need to steal someone's identity and all my money (SSN, bank account #'s, etc).

    I'm just being paranoid, right?

  8. Hello,

I know my question depends on each and every embassy, etc...BUT can someone let me know your thoughts on when to expect to have the interview date. My wife and 2 step-kids are Peruvian and we are almost there. My wife and step-daughters cases are complete but we had to provide one more document for my step-son which should be at the NVC by the end of this week. That being said, once the case is complete how long after that will I 1. Hear about the interview date and 2. When will the interview date be set (e.g. two weeks after the case is complete, etc...)?

The reason I am asking is because we have court ordered permission for the kids to leave the country but it expires on June 3rd. If it expires before we have the visas we will need to do the whole court process over again in Peru which could take anywhere from 4 - 6 months. That being said, does anyone know if the visas can be extended from the default 6 months to a longer time period given extenuating circumstances, etc...?

    Thanks,

    Joshua Ingram

Call or email (using the feedback form) the embassy after NVC sends out the petition. Lima isn't as busy as other embassies so hopefully they will schedule your interview quickly. They scheduled our interview date in about 4 weeks from our NOA2 date.

  9. Hey you all!

this is an exciting months for sure ! I went to see the Dr. Sandro Corigliano all I paid is $95.0 plus S/.274.00 per the vaccination. It was not too bad all the price ! The Dr. is nice and very friendly. Now am filled all my papers and well I will be back with some questions hope u can give me some advicers as usual.

    Thanks!!

Congrats on moving along in the process :-) My fiance will have his medical appointment in another week or so. Did you pay in dollars, soles or both??

  10. I was wondering what mail carriers you guys have used to mail the visa stuff to your fiance's in South America (Peru, specifically).

I want to keep in mind speed as well as price. I've used FedEx there once and paid $90 for quick shipping and it ended up taking 2 weeks (missort)!.

To Peru, I recommend using DHL. I sent documents with DHL and it cost between $90-100 and arrived in 2-3 days. You can track it the whole way (from anywhere in the US to anywhere within Peru). If there are any problems with the address or reaching the actual person that the documents are meant for, they will either return the following day or you can request to pick up the package at the nearest DHL office in Peru.

  11. I was thinking the same thing today...where is ole Al422?

It's upsetting that the few people who actual have fraudulent marriages have consequently put us all through this crazy process. The people who are determined to get to the U.S. will probably find some way and some form to do it. All of us here on VJ, on the other hand, must suffer and expose our private lives to total strangers in order to deem us as acceptable members of society. Yep, totally unfortunate but I want to be with the man I love so I'll tell the details of my private life to whoever wants to know if that what it takes for him to be with me. :((L)

  12. You dont have to have your 2010 returns for the interview. Copies of what you filed prove you filed. It is not the same as transcripts which prove they acted upon the returns. The idea is to ensure you dont have taxes owed. The embassy may accept your copies. If they dont you will have lost the time it takes to get what is required. You can get the actual transcripts in a few hours to a few weeks depending on how you request them.

Asking for a different interview date doesnt matter to the embassy. You are then subject to their ability to give you a new date.

Thank you - that's good to know. How and where can I get copies of the transcripts?

  13. In Peru only Syphallis, no drugs and no HIV

My fiance is going to take his medical exam this week. If you don't mind me asking, which doctor did you see, how long was the visit, and would you recommend him? Also, did they take just blood or urine too? My fiance has had health problems in the past so is slightly freaked out by the whole process. I'm trying to calm him down so any information on the medical exam part would be extremely helpful. I apologize if any of my questions seem intrusive and I would understand if you do not wish to share the medical experience.
