She passed her exam, and after some waiting they gave her the immunizations and sent her on her way with her envelope. Thank you all so much for your help and support!

Congratulations to you both! If you don't mind me asking, what questions did they ask her? :)

  3. So today I decided to check on the status of our I-751/ROC and I thought I entered the wrong number because the page looked different and it stated:

On July 29, 2013, we mailed the new card directly to the address we have on file. You should receive your new card within 30 days. If you do not, or if you move before you get it, call customer service

Happy Dance!! Wishing all those who are waiting for their cases be approved just as fast!

  4. Hello again! Just got off the phone with her and explained to her the implications if they choose to go with the planned date. They've decided to have a very simple Church wedding and only invite the witnesses, and 2 entourage. She said she was worried about not being able to submit the documents on time so it's one sacrifice she's willing to make. She also liked the suggestion of having the reception some other time so we can prepare more food. :P

Thanks again and have a great day!

PS. The new date is July 7th. :)

  5. I don't know which state this individual is in or the specific regulations there. But, there is a lot of middle ground between a courthouse and a big wedding. If the location is a problem: get the marriage license, find out when the minister (or other person qualified to officiate) is available to meet with you briefly, go to the location of your choosing with the officiant and any required witnesses, have a simple ceremony, turn in the paperwork, and then go all out with the big shebang on August 2 or 4 or whenever.

A marriage doesn't have to be accompanied by a big party and the presence of everyone you know to be legal. After having gone through all of the regulatory hurdles to get over here in the first place, it would be a pity to decide to prioritize satisfying precise religious requirements over satisfying regulatory hurdles and risk throwing all of that time/effort away.

I understand. The minister did ask why they did choose that date when June 30 and the first 2 weeks of July is open for the picking. If there's an underlying problem besides finances, I'll/we'll never know.. I guess I'll have to go call her now. Thanks everyone! :)

  6. Then please have a USCitizen compute the range for you.

    There's a POE date, and there's a marriage date.

If your friend falls outside of the range because you have this weakness, it will 'look bad' on you. Get another human to help you.

Wow, way to cut it deep. I'd appreciate if you tone it down a bit since I'm just here to help a friend who said her fiance's visa's expiration is August 4. When you mentioned the "calculation", I checked it upon myself so it turned out it's August 2 instead of August 4. For the record, I took her word for the expiration date since she's the one getting married, not I.

May i ask what religion is this that don't allow married in a courthouse?

Church of Christ. You can visit incmedia.org :)

  7. sorry, please restudy a calendar, and make sure you are using American Calendar Math and not PI Calendar Math.

    It'll make a difference.

In respect to 'getting married', though - for legal requirements, it's exceptionally easy to get married at the local courthouse within a week. Suggest they marry nowish, sort out the financials for AOS , then file the AOS later, even much later.

There is no requirement for WHEN to file the AOS, but there absolutely is a requirement for WHEN to get married. Miss that one bit? No path for adjustment available anymore.

See, my calculation is wrong (not a Math lover here...). Turns out it's August 2, not August 4. :(

    Hello Darnell,

Thanks for the response but we're not allowed to get married in a courthouse. No exceptions.

As for the US Calendar math, sorry - not my strongest suit.

  9. That's cutting it really close. What is it they can't afford? A big wedding or a civil ceremony? If they can afford a civil ceremony, perhaps they could go to the courthouse to make it official sooner, then have a celebration later.

    Hi Cori and Rob!

We already pitched in with most of the things that is going to be needed for the wedding. She just told me that her intended date of marriage is July 28th but no minister is available to officiate the wedding. In our religion, we're not allowed to get married in the courthouse. I'm trying to see if they can go for Aug 3 but that is still too close.

Let's say they do get married on the 4th which is still encompassed by the 90-day rule, what will they have to do immediately so they can prepare them as early as now? I know the last document they'll need and will only get after the wedding is the marriage certificate.

  10. Hello! I'm posting on behalf of my friend who, due to some unexpected financial setbacks, had to push her wedding on the 4th of August. We looked at all the options but they really have no other options but to choose this date. This is the 90th day so we're wondering if there will be any impact on her fiance's adjustment of status or should they start applying for the AOS now? I'm not really knowledgeable on the K1 visa procedure. Thank you so much in advance!

  11. Hello everyone, on the topic of picking up your luggage after the "processing" step, I'll fly into JFK in a few short weeks if all goes well with my interview. Since the processing can take quite awhile does anyone know what will happen with your luggage if it sits on the carousel for to long? I want me husband to stay with me and not go off to claim our baggage, but if it takes an hour for processing I'm sure the airport staff will not just leave our bags sitting there. Does JFK have a specific claims area? Any information you might provide is greatly appreciated.

Our POE was JFK. Unclaimed bags are taken off the conveyor belt by the porters and are left in the middle of the floor for claiming (near the conveyor belt). Don't worry. The process only took me 5-6 minutes. BTW, the luggage area is but a few feet away from the immigration office. We found it best that he tend to the bags after the POE officer told me to wait in the office after stamping my passport.
