We received an RFE today. Really bummed about it, and dreading it. I feel it will be complicated. We were overseas when we got married, and lived there for a year and a half. When we returned to the US, we lived with my parents, and moved out shortly after filing for the I-751. We don't have a lot of documentation... wondering what we should do.... We've got our present lease agreement, and a few bills, but nothing really prior to moving out. Advice?

You will be able to augment your application with affidavits and additional documentation on financial co-mingling? For example, a joint credit cards/bank accounts with statements showing since the start of your marriage. Beneficiary statements from any retirement plans and all of your assets. Cell phone statements likewise also will help.

Don't be bummed. Just have to strengthen up your case.

I find it interesting that you are on a H1-B, so am i and i sent an application for an EAD, but they never processed it, and also, one of the other NYC long term wait-ers is also currently on a H1-B..... this makes me think that maybe we're being pushed back as non-priority, considering we're already here and working legally...... i'm wondering if any of the other people waiting since November are on H1-B's..... just a thought...

Sorry to hear of your troubles. My spouse was also here on an H1-B, filed for AOS in Feb. and interview in July.

For your utility bills you should be able to add a second name to the mailing address. That's what we did. Perhaps it'll work for you. Check with your utility.

For your cell phone bill, I assume you guys have a family plan? If you do, can your name be assigned to the number on the bill? You should be able to do this, but I don't have T-Mobile service. Your husband remains the primary account holder. Your name just gets added to the T-Mobile bill.

If you take any trips together that requires domestic flight, print out the itinerary that shows you and your husband on the same booking and I'd hold onto the boarding passes too. One shows you booked the trip, the other shows you actually took it.

Did your husband put you on his health insurance plan? Name you as beneficiaries for any of his accounts? That's additional proof.

Well we had our interview today and were the first to start the day. Boy did it go *fast*.

We were in the building for maybe 45 minutes. In the actual interview for less than 10 minutes.

The woman was pleasant, conversational and nice! After seeing how organized I was with all of the documents and copies, she suggested I apply for a job with the government. Haha.

There weren't any questions out of the ordinary and everything was really simple. She went through just a handful of the standard yes/no questions, asked for marriage certificate, financials, health insurance, utility bills and pictures. I offered her copies of receipts of things we did together (trips, shows, etc. etc.) and an itinerary of an overseas trip we're planning to take in a couple of months.

After the interview, we waited for maybe another 10 minutes in the waiting area and she called us back up and gave us the passport back with the stamp in it.

She didn't mentioned anything about the lifting of conditions, but we're not worried. We are elated that this round is over!

On a separate note, did your husband get a refund or have to pay? A refund check or a cashed check will some proof they process the 2010 return. If they can't find the return, your husband will be on the hook for his 2010 return.

BTW, I'm not a tax attorney. =)

If you decide to do a walk-in at whatever office (NYC or in CO) before your scheduled appt, be sure to bring the original NOA for the biometrics appointment with you!

My husband and I submitted our AOS on March 1st and we just received our notice for an interview for July 19. Earlier than I thought it would be, from the sounds of people on this forum.

It says it's at the National Benefits Center, which office does that mean?

Just received email and text our interview has been scheduled!

Practically a church is an organization that needs to be supported and it's main line of financial support is through its members. Without the suport of its own members through volunteer efforts and donations, a church or any non-profit driven organization would fail. Easier said, If you commit to a church, you ought to commit to supporting it. Just as you commit to your spouse you commit to supporting him/her.

The Bible talks about sacrifice and giving a few times. One example is with the woman giving the little she had (Luke 21:1-4). I'll quote it below:

1 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

Your relationship with God is yours alone. Your relationship with the community of believers isn't and that's one way a church fills a void in your faith. Not that I'm implying you're not committing to a church btw!

I believe faith isn't just about a personal relationship with God. It's also about a communal relationship with others of the same belief and when you find a group or church to help in that faith building, you ought to commit to it. One of those commitments involve supporting the church you attend by volunteering and another is by giving.

Uhhh. So, my walk-in biometrics experience was not as easy sailing as it has been for many others..But luckily ended with success, thanks to the wonderful and very accommodating people at the Manhattan Varick street location.

I had my biometrics scheduled for 04/14, at the Brooklyn ASC office (which, by the way, is in a reeeally dodgy neighborhood..). Otherwise I wouldn't of been in any hurry to do it sooner, but I have recently been offered a possibility to turn my current internship into a (well) paid consultancy. Right now I of course cannot work since I do not have EAD, and my supervisor has been very understanding and is doing her best to delay the whole hiring process to give me enough time to get my EAD. So, because of this, I really wanted to get my biometrics done as early as possible to hopefully get the EAD early as well, maybe with a help of a congressman.

So. After reading posts here from people who have in the past done a successful walk-in at the Brooklyn location, I tried that for the first time yesterday morning. Went there on a Wednesday, was there before the office opened at 8am, waited in line. They called in people who had 8am appointments first, and then around 8:20 started to call for people with 9am appointments. There were about 10 people there at that time, in addition to me. I went up to the security guy and told him my appointment wasn't until the 14th, but wanted to see if I could do a walk-in. Not a chance. He said immediately (and he was being very nice throughout this conversation), that they had approximately 400 people scheduled for that day and there is no way they would be taking walk-ins. I asked if they never do walk-ins of if I could try on another day or another time, and he said that it is best to come after 12.

So. Second try today. Went back to the dodgy ASC (which is in a really weird shopping mall), was there around 12:15pm. There was no line, walked into the office and up to the same security guy. There were about 15-20 people sitting in the waiting area. Told him the same thing - wanted to come for a walk-in if possible. He was still nice and polite, but this time said "No. We do not do walk-ins here at all." He basically said that they get so many scheduled appointments each day, that they have decided to make it a policy not to take any walk-ins on any days.

I walked out, and considered my options. After going up there twice it was obvious that there would be no point in trying to do a walk-in there on another day or another time - they just wouldn't do it. Which I do understand. From what I know, that particular Brooklyn ASC serves ALL of Brooklyn - there is no other location here. So I can see why they are so busy and have so many appointments for each day, probably much more than most ASC offices do.

Since I had already wasted several hours on this, I decided to give it one more try, this time in another ASC location. The only one I knew of in Manhattan was the Varick street office, and it was pretty fast and easy for me to get to. So, I traveled there.

First security guy told me I could go up to the office and ask them if I could do my biometrics there though my appointment was not until two weeks from now AND scheduled for another office. I go upstairs, ask the security lady there. she said I had to ask this other lady at the reception desk. I talk to her, she is a bit hesitant and says they probably can't do it, but she will check with the supervisor. She goes to speak to the supervisor lady, who comes to ask me why I want to get my biometrics taken earlier and why I came to a different location. I explain to her that I have a really good job offer, but don't have that much time to get my EAD to be able to get the job, and that I did try Brooklyn location twice but was told they do not do walk-ins at all. She is also a bit hesitant, but goes to talk to someone else. She comes back in a couple of minutes and tells me I can do it there.

So, end result - had my biometrics taken at Varick st. location, the whole thing from entering that building to walking out took less than 20 minutes, there were barely any people there when I went, which was around 1:30pm or so. The people were super nice and helpful, and even though they could have just denied me without having to even look at my papers or listen to my reasons, they really were being extra accommodating and understanding and the whole experience there was great.

As I said, Brooklyn office service was good too. The guard was nice, but very firm on his answers. This is also to inform others who have biometrics scheduled for Brooklyn ASC. Early walk-in probably won't work.

All's well that ends well. Now I am gonna wait until mid-April, and then try to get the congressman involved to get my EAD as fast as possible.

Sorry that you had to go through all that trouble. I wonder if we had the same security guard in the Brooklyn ASC? We did a walk in there a few weeks ago successfully... on a Wed morning too. But, at least you've gotten it taken care despite the trouble!

Ooo, great. What time did you go? Do you know if they have specific walk-in times, or did you just.. Well, walk in And also, did you have to wait around for long? I intern 9am to 5pm so I need to time it well so that I preferably wouldn't have to spend all day there..

We got there just a little before it opened. Not too many people were there and the guard did check to see if they would take walk-in's before letting us in. In and out in 15 minutes. Painless!

I have an appointment to get my biometrics done at the Brooklyn USCIS loction on April 14th, and was wondering if anyone here has experience with that office and knows if they take walk-ins? Their info website doesn't state walk-in hours. Anyone here who has dealt with this location / tried a walk-in?

If you filed Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, as of July 30, 2007, no fee is required to also file a request for employment authorization on Form I-765. You may file the I-765 concurrently with your I-485, or you may submit the I-765 at a later date. If you file Form I-765 separately, you must also submit a copy of your Form I-797C, Notice of Action, receipt as evidence of the filing of Form I-485 as of July 30, 2007.

You count each person only once. Your wife, the intending immigrant is already counted. You don't enter her again.

As for your friend... you should not count that person as part of your household. The instructions are pretty clear on who counts as a member of your household: "household size includes yourself and the following individuals, no matter where they live: any spouse, any dependent children under the age of 21, any other dependents listed on your most recent Federal income tax return." I-864 instructions, bottom left column of page 2 - "How do I count Household size?"

Went for bio-metrics today! Yeah one more thing out of the way. They were super friendly in Maine. She did have an issue taking my prints...what an ordeal! She asked me if I also filed for an ead and an a/p...I said yes and she said ok then I'll do it for all of them. She then stated that if she didnt, I would have to go back and have it done for each process...hmmm. So make sure you let them know what you filed for specificlly.

Just curious, how many sets of fingerprints did they take?
