  1. Happy BDay EAbbas! I pray this year will bring you and your family the happiness you dream of !

I wasn't sure what date our case made it back to the embassy so they gave me some information I didn't know. It made me feel better to write to the President and see what their response would be. So don't be afraid to write to the President you might just get some important information about your case.

Carolyn! I hope this means good things are on their way to you and Ahmed!

Prayers for all my brothers and sisters in AP.

  2. I have taken the following information off of the Department of State website:

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html#8

During the visa interview, applicants will be required to present evidence to the Consular Officer that they will not become a public charge in the U.S. You may present evidence that you are able to financially support yourself or that your U.S. citizen fiancé(e) is able to provide support. The Consular Officer may request that a Form I-134, Affidavit of Support be submitted by the U.S. citizen fiancé(e).

The U.S. citizen fiancé(e) will need to submit Form I-864 to USCIS with the application for adjustment of status to that of legal permanent resident following the marriage.

The 125 percent of the federal poverty guideline minimum income requirement, the most recent year's tax return, and other requirements only apply when Form I-864 is needed. Applicants presenting Form I-134 will need to show that their U.S. sponsor's income is 100 percent of the federal poverty guideline.

The Department of State uses the Foreign Affairs Manual (FAM) to go by. Here is the latest FAM on this issue which includes a very helpful chart so you can find out exactly how much you need to be able to show in your documents: http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/86991.pdf

I hope this is helpful for you.

  3. I think that your intentions are good on this posting but I really don't think that this list could ever be complete due to the following facts:

    • There is mandatory AP for all males coming from Pakistan and most of the women
    • The timeframes of this AP vary dramatically
    • Each and every case is different

I do disagree with your examples because there was a significant age difference between myself and my husband, we are not the same nationality, weren't the same religion at the time of application and I am also previously divorced and I have children. We got our Visa after being on AP for 2 1/2 months.

You can find similarities which is how we can help and support each other but there is never an identical case handled the exact same way.

  4. You both should keep you chins up! Why?

    1- They kept your paperwork

    2- You weren't denied

3- AP is mandatory for all males coming from Pakistan

I would, however, do a Congressional Inquiry because from everything I have read, Co-Sponsors ARE allowed.

Personally, I think your interview sounds like it went very well.

    Prayers for you both!

  5. I am not 100% sure but it may be because of problems caused by a major storm that we had here on the East Coast of the US last Friday night. There are still hundreds of thousands without power and I am sure that telephone issues go along with that. I live in Maryland, close to DC where the NVC is located and I just got my power back on last night. Many of my colleagues in DC are still without power. Be patient! I am sure they will be back to normal soon!

  6. Fiancee called DOS on friday rep said congratz ur visa issued called again 2nd time then rep said AP called again 3rd time then rep said visa has been issued on June 13th and some representative dont look at K-1 visa screen so 2nd representative may have said AP in misunderstanding. Today june 18 still no call from Amex any idea ???????? Is DOS reliable or not i am in a dilema.

I can tell you that this exact same thing happened to me. I called one day and they told me that my fiance's Visa had been issued and then my fiance never heard anything from his side as to where to go and when to pick it up. So a few days later I called again and they told me we were still on AP. My heart fell and I grew very confused. So I called again and when they told me AP I asked them why a few days before was I told that the Visa had been issued and they weren't sure so they asked me to hold while they checked. Sure enough I guess for K-1 Visa's they mark a different screen when the Visa is issued that many don't know to look there. So after they checked they said Oh Yes, I see your Visa was issued on Aprl 30th. So I left it at that. It wasn't until he received a call from American Express to come and pick up the Visa on May 4th that I was 100% sure. He never heard anything back from the Embassy, no communication. Just a call from American Express. So no worries, Inshallah, American Express should call soon. Congrats!

  7. Like EAbbas and sn530 have stated, it also sounds to me like there was something more to the story that set off a red flag to them. I am divorced and have children from my previous husband and didn't have too much difficulty obtaining my finace's K1. How long have you all known each other? Have you ever met in person? This story seems a little bit incomplete without futher details and laying blame on the Consular Officer.

  8. Correct.

The fee for AOS/EAD/AP is $1070. That's a $985 filing fee and an $85 biometric fee. EAD and AP fees are waived when filing with AOS.

Great! Thanks so much for your response! It was a bit confusing for me to interpret! :) Also, congrats on receiving you Green Card! Hooray!

This isn't related to the fee question but make sure you submit a copy of your NOA2 from the I-129F with I-485. It's very important for people adjusting from K-1. Send a copy of your I-94 also.

Ahhh that is very good to know! Thanks so much for the helpful tip! :)

    Cheers!

  9. My experience with USCIS is that the website isn't very up to date and the last thing they do is send a message stating what is going on. I signed up for both text messages and email notifications and would receive the text message a few minutes before the email notification.

I received my NOA1 approximately 5 days after I sent in my petition. I too would highly recommend giving them a call and checking on your case. Be sure to get your Case # from them so you can track it online too. I would think that them having cashed your check is a good sign that things are well on their way but best to call and be 100% sure!

No worries and best of luck.

  10. Thanks! Somehow I must have overlooked that statement. No worries though. The man said he'd hold our applicaiton for 10 days and file it for us so we didn't have to make a 2nd trip. We got a letter on Saturday saying that they had received our application and we should get the card in 7-10 days. So no issue for us either except for appearing over eager! LOL

  11. I mostly wanted to post this as an FYI because of something that happened to my fiance and I. We went to file for his social security number the day after her arrived in the US. Mostly because it was a free day and an excuse to drive somewhere to show him a little more of the area we are living in. The man at the Social Security Administration Office was very surprised and told us that you must be in the US for 10 days before they can process your Social Security Application. Just keep that in mind.

    Best of Luck to Everyone!

  12. I know some people who have gone with their loved one to their interview and some who have not. I had planned to be there with my fiance but chose to go and visit him since the wait ended up being much longer than we had thought it was going to be. From what I can tell, it really doesn't hurt if you go but it doesn't really help either. I would however highly recommend that you check to make sure the Embassy where your interview will be conducted allows for the USC to be present at the interview or not. Some do allow it and some don't.

Basically do what you feel is best! and Best of Luck!

  13. I can remember being confused by what "touched" meant also. Basically it is if that date changes to a different date but the "Status" of the case remains the same. That signals that someone did something on your case and logged the date. That is all. Mine was never "touched" so don't get too bent out of shape if this doesn't happen for your case.

  14. You make a great point! There are always helpful, knowledgeable people at airports that can help him find his way and great idea about finding the maps on the internet. I pulled them down and looked at them and the airport doesn't appear to be one of the more massive ones I have been to. Pretty straight forward. I am thankful that his English is very good. :) Thanks again to all for your responses! Just trying to find things to make his trip more easy and ways to give him tips to mentally prepare. Thank goodness he is one of the most easy going men I know!. :)

  15. Yes! These are all very good comments! Thanks for sharing with me! :)

I am curious about when they arrive to the airport in Istanbul from Islamabad. He will be checking his luggage and I am wondering if he will be required to gather it after his plane lands in Istanbul and then recheck it before he get on his connecting flight. This is what I have to do when I go thru Abu Dhabi and it is a big pain. If they actually transfer it to his connecting flight for him that will be much simplier. Anyone have experience with baggage from Islamabad to Istanbul and connecting flights?
