I was just hoping there would be no reprecussions because of this..Not only my wife, but her employer, as well. So I guess it's safe?
-
Anybody? Really want to get going on the job search.

Hi, all. My wife received her EAD last night, and we sat down to do a resume. Since she had a sick father (Alzheimers) to support, she did work 2 jobs under the table. I'm cautious to put these jobs on her resume because of her AOS is still in process. If she cannot list these jobs, then her resume will just show her volunteer summer job from a few years ago. Would it be safe?

Hey guys,
We received notification that our EAD is being produced (woohoo!), anyways, my wife's SS card says "not valid for work"..it does NOT say "not valid without DHS authorization"..is it correct that once the EAD arrives, that my wife must take her EAD and SS card and get it changed to take away the "not valid for work"..? Also, how long does this process take? Is it an easy one? Once the EAD arrives, can she begin applying for work, or does she have to wait for the new SS card? Thanks!
-
My wife was told it could be 2-4 weeks to receive her new card but I think they always say that to keep people from calling too soon...
The truth is, according to the I-9 instructions, the EAD is a List A document and can stand alone. As long as she has a SS #, she should be OK to work with just the EAD and knowing her SS#.
That's what I was hoping to hear. It gets tough living on 1 income after awhile.

I'm just hoping that once the EAD comes that she can work. Money is getting tight, and we are budgeting until she can work. Once she receives her EAD, how long does it take to fix her SS card? We do not have to wait for the GC I hope.
-
Yes, that needs to be changed and they can do it with the EAD. What visa did she adjust from?
She changed from a B-2 visa.
-
The 'Not Valid for Employment without DHS Authorization' has to stay on the SS card until the GC is received. The good news is that the EAD is that authorization. If her name was changed due to marriage, she should update her SS card with her married name which will need to match the EAD.
(My wife did this today.)
Her card does not say anything about DHS authorization. It just says "not valid for employment". Would this change anything?

hi!!
I got my EAD after 8 days since my biometrics, also I had ssn number before with the "valid for work only with DHS authorization"
I went to ss office to change my name (I change my maiden name for my married name) ,the number is still the same and the "alid for work only with DHS authorization" remains in the card, that can be removed only with the green card.
the process in the social security office is pretty simple and fast , I took with me: passport,EAD,old social security card and certificate of marriage.
good luck!!1
Thanks for your response. Does this mean that she cannot work until she receives her green card and is able to change her SS card, or does the EAD effectively eliminate her non-validity on her SS?
-
Also, I just thought about this. What about her social security number? Does the "not valid for employment" matter anymore? I hear you get your updated SS card after you are approved for your green card. Would I need to go to the SS office and get it changed once the EAD comes in? Is it a diffcult process?

Hi. We are really excited, because our EAD card is being produced 6 days after our biometrics appointment. My question is simple: My wife has a social security card (marked "not valid for employment"). Does she have to wait for the EAD card to come in, or can she begin to look for work now?
-
Apparently it has to do with the new rules and regulations. She has to prove her legal residency, which we cannot. They also ask for unexpired passports, which we cannot provide.
-
I didn't think so. She has anxiety issues and she wonders about every single detail. Will it pose a problem that our licenses have different addresses? Mine has my parents current address, but that's because I haven't gotten my license renewed because it's valid for another couple of years. My wife's has her old home address before we got married because she isn't allowed to change it anymore.
-
My wife's license has her old home address on it. She cannot get it changed to our current address -- something to do with the new changes; I'm not sure. Will this pose a problem during her biometrics appointment tomorrow? Will they understand her situation?
Also (probably a dumb question), my wife had her nails done and had artificial nails put in. This wouldn't effect the fingerprinting would it?
Thanks guys.
-
Well, it's probably the same thing, but hers does not say "not valid without DHS authorization"...it just states "not valid for work". She has had that card for more than 12 years, so I'm assuming it's the same?
-
My wife is going in for biometrics tomorrow, meaning her EAD should go through soon (hopefully). She already has a SS# and card, but it does state "not valid for work". After she receives her EAD, is she free to work wherever she wants, or will she have to go to the social security office and be issued a new card?

Hi all. USCIS received our AOS package on 4/4. Monday will mark 4 weeks since we have sent out package. We have received the NOA on 4/18. I'm just curious as to whether or not it usually takes this long. According to the website, our AOS has not been touched since 4/9. Should I make a call somewhere, or am I just being impatient as I tend to do?
-
I dont think they would just accept walk-ins. First they need your case lined up so they can put your biometrics with your file and then if they started doing walk-ins I am sure ppl would be willing to shell out money for flight and do walk-ins.
I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing. A flight?
-
I was just curious to see if anybody has tried a walk-in biometrics appointment in Durham, NC. It is about a 1hr 15 min drive, and I was just curious to see if they accepted walk-ins.

Hi all. As you know, an AOS is expensive. It is much more expensive when you hire a lawyer as my wife and I did. We should be filing next week, and we are both excited/nervous/anxious. My question is this - Once she receives her EAD, she is legally able to work as a citizen or permanent resident would, correct? There would be no issues in her finding work? Also, for those of you who have gone through the process, are employers less likely to hire a person in this position? I know legally they are not "allowed" to do that, but has it been difficult to find work? (even more so than it already is)

Hey guys. My wife came in to the country on a visa approximately 17 years ago. Her mother lost my wife's I-94 card, but we have copies of her mother's and her younger sisters I-94. We also have a passport stamp showing entry, and lastly, they still have the original plane ticket with my wife's name on it..showing not only the departure city, but the stop they made in Europe along the way. This should be sufficient proof of legal entry, correct?
-
Wait..so once you have sent off your AOS packet, you can do biometrics as early as you want? No need to wait for the appointment?
-
Just like answered request your IRS transcripts online
Don't call them do it online it took us 3 business days to receive them, that's all you need!
God lawyers are so incompetent sometimes
Ok, now I'm convinced that lawyers are incompetent. I called back just to get clarification of why she needed it. She said that when they sent the 4506 (request for copy of tax return) that they FORGOT to check the w-2 box. She said that they re-sent it. This means that I can wait for them to respond back by snail mail, or she said that I might be able to call the IRS and they would fax it over to me. Anybody know the best course of action here? How long would the wait be anyhow? I have my 2010 w-2 and half of my 2009, I just need it from 1 more employer.
Well my Interview is tomorrow!!!!

Tomorrow is the big day! My wife and I have a 10am appointment for our AOS interview. Any tips/advice? We are bringing in copies of everything we can think of to prove that we're a real marriage. Here is what we have:
Lease in both of our names
Dish Network bill in both of our names
Wedding invitation in both of our names
Wedding albums with hundreds of pictures
Approximately 20 pictures of us at various events (sports games, dinner, vacation)
Cell phone bill showing both of our numbers
Medical bills for my wife with our address on it
Our wedding invitation
Joint tax returns
Of course, we are bringing in everything we submitted with our packet (marriage certificate, passport, etc.)
Do I need MY passport?
Also, we submitted our AOS packet without her I-94 card, which was missing, but our lawyer said her entry stamp (showing date of arrival), and her original plane ticket with her name would be sufficient.
I plan on dressing business casual (slacks with dress shoes/polo shirt), and she will do the same.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
