Hi all,
It's been a while since I have posted on here, so a little background info...my wife and her (our) son came to America on a K-1 visa back in September, and we were married in November. Due to some financial difficulties, we haven't been able to file for their AOS yet, but should be in a position to do so soon. That being said, I am trying to figure out if I can bypass paying the fee for our son by legally adopting him. I am under the assumption that if I adopt him, he would be considered a US citizen, and therefore he would not need a green card, but I don't know if my logic is correct. I have tried asking my immigration attorney about it, but he doesn't seem to know the ins and outs of adoption laws, and he thinks it would be more beneficial to just file for his AOS along with my wife's and then proceed with the adoption later. Can anyone provide some solid info on this problem?

I was unable to go to Kiev to be with Nastya for her interview, so I don't know all the details yet, but I found out that her visa was approved today! Words can't describe how happy I am right now!

I don't know how it is in Russia, but our K-1 was received at the Embassy in Ukraine 4 days after the NVC sent it. I called the Embassy and was told that they had received it, so I purchased the PIN code and called back 2 days ago to schedule the interview for my fiancee, which will be on August 8. So, it's about a month from the time you call to schedule the interview.
If I am reading correctly, you received your case number from the NVC, but you don't know if they have sent it to the Embassy in Moscow yet? I was told it would take 4-6 weeks, but like I said earlier, they received it in 4 days. I would call the NVC to see if they have sent it, and if they did send it more than 4 days ago, you should call the Embassy to see if they have it. If so, you'll be able to schedule the interview right away.

WAIT - that's yer timeline data !
I don't know what you mean by this? I just updated my timeline after I called the NVC...I'd still like to know when they actually received my application.

now is time to call, use telephone - here's some guide about it:
Dodi's posted how to call and who, further down I've posted what you can get, from whom, and when.
Thanks, I called them and they said it had been sent to the consulate in Kiev on June 13, but she didn't tell me when they received the application from the VSC. In any case, at least now I know that it is in transit! Thanks again!

It is a standard mailer. Most peoples letter say this on it.
It must be sent to NVC to be logged and given an embassy case number before it is sent to the embassy.
Understood. I received an email from my attorney yesterday saying that he received a notice from the NVC and they should be sending our I-129F to the embassy in a few days. On another note, shouldn't I personally be receiving a notice from the NVC that tells me the date they received/sent my package to the embassy? So far, the only update I see on the USCIS website is the NOA2 approval on June 1.

Hi all,
Our I-129F was approved on June 1, and I received the hard-copy receipt last week. I am a little confused about something...everything I've read says that it must go through the NVC first before it is sent to the consulate in Kiev, but the receipt I received in the mail (which was sent from the Vermont Service Center) states that the application has been approved and is being forwarded to the consulate. Am I missing something? It says nothing about going to the NVC, and the only number I could find to the NVC is an automated message telling me the same thing I already know. Does anyone know of a way to talk to an actual person at the NVC to find out what is going on, or should I just call the consulate in Kiev to see if they have the application? Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I will tell Nastya about this other form and make sure she has it for her interview.

Hello all, as the title states, my NOA2 was approved today. I know it must pass through the NVC and then on to the consulate in Kiev, and there's really no telling exactly how long that takes. I'm ok with that. However, I was doing some reading on the Kiev Embassy website, and I noticed that one requirement for the interview process is that both biological parents must be present at the time of the interview. Now for the backstory: my fiancée was pregnant from another man before I met her, but he disappeared soon after he found out, never to be seen again. At the advice of my immigration attorney, she made up a name to list on the baby's birth certificate. Since the biological father is nowhere to be found, and the name on the certificate isn't an actual person, is that going to create problems at the interview? I think she could probably say something like she didn't know who the father was so she made up a name, but I don't know how well that will work. Any thoughts?

Hello everyone, I have been lurking on this forum a little bit here and there, and I finally decided to register.
A bit of background info: I met my fiancée online back in May of last year. To make a long story short, I went to visit her in Ukraine for most of the month of October. Although I didn't know what to expect when I met her in person, we hit it off perfectly and I asked her to marry my towards the end of my visit. Once I arrived back in the States, at the advice of a few friends, I consulted an immigration attorney. I started working on acquiring all the documents, and my fiancée did her part. However, the translation service my attorney uses misspelled several documents, and they all had to be redone. This, along with waiting for various documents, took from the first week of November until last week, when we finally had everything together. l probably could've done it all myself in a fraction of the time, but I didn't want to take the chance of getting something wrong and delaying the process. Anyways, I have not yet received the NOA1, but hopefully that will come sometime this week.
I don't really have any questions or concerns for the time being, so I will probably just continue to lurk here for a while unless a question pops up that I can't find an answer to. I will make updates on here as they come to me. Take care, everyone!
AOS Interview
in Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas
Posted
Hello all,
It's been a while since I posted here, but we finally have our AOS interview scheduled for October 23. I just have a question about something the letter said we needed to bring to the interview, which is my daughter's birth certificate. She doesn't live with us and her mother has sole custody. I don't have her birth certificate because I don't really need it for anything, so I'm wondering if this is something we ABSOLUTELY need to have? Anyone else been in this situation? Thanks for any info.
