  1. Yes they have records of all previously accepted or rejected visas. In the forms you must mention whether you have ever been approved or had ever been rejected for a US visa.

I am not sure what you mean by "application" of old visas here. Do you mean that your fiance had just filled out the forms and never went for the visa?? or your fiance went for the interview and was either approved or rejected for the visa?

  2. Hi,

Initially we thought we can apply for the Police Clearance certificate only after getting the communication from Chennai Consulate.

But our assumption is wrong. We can start the PCC process even before application reaches the consulate.

In Hyderabad, we have to apply for the PCC at the passport office and they will communicate with the Police and return it after all the verifications by police. This is a lengthy and slow moving process.

It may take minimum one month to few months.

We are trying to see if we can show our visa interview date and the medical exam etc.. and get the process expedited.

    CSK

You need your passport for the medical. At least for mumbai hospitals they insist that you have your passport. You should call up the hospital and check, unlikely you can go without it though.

  3. We are still waiting on the NOA2 but just getting all the forms ready. Tried getting the pcc and ran across that issue. But they did say that it only takes 4-5 days to get the pcc once you have your interview letter...so I guess a lot to do once we receive the interview letter and the interview date. We will be sending the applicant statement, DS 156 and DS 230 the same day we get the packet three. Anything else i need to send with packet three?

Did either of you guys use DS 2001? I

I saw the I 134 is expiring on May 31st also....and I think DS 156 is also expiring on May 31st.

    M.

we sent applicant statement as well as DS 2001. It almost the same, It didn't do any harm

    Congrats on pre approved visa.

I have question did send them notarize copy of your birth certificate if so how did u notarize that.

    Can you explain ?

    Thanks.

I didn't send a notarized copy of my birth certificate. VFS will take your original birth certificate and a copy, you can get it attested if you like but its not required.

  4. Congratulations. Thanks for the detail explanation. It will definitely help us out. My fiancee went to Ahmedabad to get her pcc but they wouldn't give it to her without the interview letter. Were you able to get your medical done before you got your interview letter or did you have to wait for that to make an appointment? Btw, did you have the affidavit of support notorized by someone in the US?

You have to have your interview letter for the medical exam. The lead time for getting the medical is VERY short though, so I wouldn't worry about it. You can typically schedule it 2-3 days ahead of when you want to go for the exam. Did you try getting the PCC by giving them a scanned copy of the NOA 2? Also, you don't need the affadavit of support notarized.

    Goodluck!

  5. I had my K1 visa at Mumbai consulate today..I got approved, well actually pre approved since I am missing my PCC from passport office( we already knew we would get 221 g for missing PCC) . All in all the interview was great.

I reached VFS at 6 30 am as I had a 7 30 am appointment. The bus came at 7 10, we reached the consulate by 7 20. The 7 30 appointments were sent in front of the line outside consulate.

Went inside after security check, got finger print taken and then waited to be called by pre screener.

I was called by the pre screener at 7 45. She took my affidavit of support, returned birth certificate. I told her I was missing the PCC. She said thats not an issue, I can give it later. She took my old and new passport as well. questions she asked-

    - Is this the first marriage for you both?

    - When did you come back from USA?

    -How long were you there?

-When was the last time your fiance came to India?

After waiting for about 2.5 hours, I was finally called at 10 50 am. It was long and frustrating wait. I was called to window 9- where an Indian( not the same pre-screener) and a young female CO were waiting for me. After making me take a oath, she made me sign the DS 156K and asked following questions.

    -Tell me something about yourself?

    - Where are you studying right now? Which classes are you taking?

    - When was the last time you met your fiance?

    - When did your fiance meet you after you came back to India from the USA?

    - Are your parents ok with the fact that your fiance and you take holidays together before marriage?

    - When did you come back from USA?

    - What are your wedding plans in the USA? Why this specific date?

    - Why are you studying in this specific school?

Can I see some photos? I passed some photo sheets of our engagement, then she wanted more, I slipped her another 30-40. She was seeing them with a smile on her face and said " cute"

Then she asked some specific questions about one of the destinations we visited. She said oh I went there last year with my sister, did you go here and there( blah blah asking about some places there, to which I showed her photos of those places)

She then said "Ok your visa is granted, you will receive your passport in 3 business days. At this point I had to remind her about the missing police certificate., then she said ok your not approved but pre-approved. I am very satisfied with your interview, I just need you to give us your PCC, we will then send back your passport and visa a few business days later.

Some tips- Be calm and maintain eye contact. The CO was very nice, they are not there to make your life hell. They did not ask any trick questions. The waiting time is the worse part. Mumbai was also very fast in sending out my packet 4. I sent them my packet 3 o 26th April, on 2nd may I got an appointment for 20th May.

Goodluck to everyone having an interview in Mumbai. On the whole, they are nice and not unreasonable.

  6. After My Fiance received the letter from NVC saying they have processed our case, my fiance called up DOS to check whether Mumbai has received our case file. Once DOS confirmed, I sent out the documents for packet 3. I did not wait for them to mail me packet 3. I downloaded all the forms from the Mumbai consulate website and sent out packet 3 fast.

After receiving the appointment letter you can schedule your medical. Typically its alright if you schedule your medical 2 weeks before the interview. We had to rush things because we got an interview date much earlier than anticipated.

You can submit your documents to VFS 4 working days prior to the interview. It is not 7 days anymore for the K1 at least.

Note that VFS will only accept your forms, birth certificate, police clearance, passport copy, small medical report and VFS fees. You need to carry everything else to the consulate- like the big chest Xray, affidavit of support, proof of relationship etc.

  7. You are not going to be able to schedule your medical without your appointment letter. You should keep everything ready other than your medical when you send out packet 3. I did my medical in Lilavati hospital, Mumbai last week and got the results back the same day.

All the documents you need for packet 3 that you mentioned are correct. I did not return the checked form back to the consulate( you might want to call up VFS and clarify this issue). I had no issues and got my appointment date soon. However, just make sure you have everything ready in hand when you send packet 3. Mumbai is very efficient in sending the appointment letter. They sent me my interview letter 3 working days after they received my packet 3.

  8. I am not sure how long it take for New Delhi, but the Mumbai consulate sent me my appointment letter by email 3 working days after they received my packet 3 documents. The actual packet 4 came by postal mail about one week later. If you have checked the email option you should know much earlier, assuming Delhi is as fast as Mumbai in this. Good Luck!

  9. I applied for new passport because my old one was expiring soon. I have my interview in two weeks, which means that when I go for my interview my passport will be just 7-10 days old. Do I still need a PCC from passport office for the new passport ? Thanks

  10. Since you are asking for police records I am assuming you still have not cleared the K1 interview at the embassy/consulate. There is no restriction on the foreign fiance from traveling outside the country of her residence. She cannot travel to the United States without her visa but that does not mean she cannot travel else where in the world.

As long as she has her passport, visa and does not have criminal proceedings against her in her home country preventing her from traveling abroad she is free to go wherever she likes!

  11. Hello,

I was going over the DS 230 application. On instructions for Part I- biographic data, it says mark questions that are not applicable as N/A. However, when I was looking on the mUmbai consulate website ( http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivcommon_mistakes.html) I found an instruction that said never to use N/A but none or never if not applicable. I am confused now. Which of the two should I use. Any Mumbai filers in particular who can shed some light on this? Thanks

  12. Hello,

I have applied for a re-issue of new passport online. I have to go and submit my application in person next week.

How do I go about securing a PCC for the new passport? Do I have to wait until I get the new passport and then apply for the PCC through passport office or can I submit PCC form with details of my old passport? It hasn't expired yet, but I need a new one before my visa interview which will probably be in June.

    Thank you in advance.
