I read the manual cover to cover 3 times a week before my written test. The weekend before the test, my husband and his family grilled me on different road signs on our way to and from dinner. They also made me close my eyes when we passed a School Zone sign and asked me what time school zones begin and end.

Last year, I posted about my wife passing her job interviews. It is her first job, and she's still working in the same company for almost 8 months now. She has had issues with her boss and 2 other co-workers in her deparment only but she deals great with the rest. There is nothing wrong with her but the unprofessionalism her co-workers show her (she's even smarter than her boss). It became our everyday topic whenever we get home from work. My wife would rant about her mean co-workers and I would vent my own "issues" at work. I have no problems with that.

Anyway, I told her that if she isn't happy with the job anymore, she may resign anytime. I want her to be happy. She's trying to work things out but she said she feels she has to let go of the job soon.

My question is, how long did you stay at your first job in the US? And what made you quit/leave?

Last year, my husband and I briefly considered getting one of those consolidated loans so that we would make just one payment to one institution every month. I was more gung-ho about it than he was actually because I thought the concept behind a consolidated loan was cool. He did some research and learned that we'd have to put something up as collateral. The only "asset" we have that is paid in full is the car I'm driving. But we didn't think it would be prudent to lock that up in a loan forever. Consolidated loans also usually take a far longer time to pay off and the interest rates can be high.

In the end, we decided to bite the bullet and deal with our credit card debt head-on. We knocked out the highest interest cards and cancelled a couple of them. We then transferred the balances from the remaining cards to a lower interest card. We are currently on track with clearing 60% of our credit card debt by Nov this year.

If you are determined to apply for a consolidated loan, please read up as much as possible and ask experienced professionals before you dive in. You'll also need a concrete plan on how you will pay off that loan.

We opened a joint checking account with Regions two months after I arrived here. Had absolutely no problems. They didn't even ask if I had a SSN yet. They just needed to see my passport and a copy of our marriage certificate. Hubby was already a customer with Regions for 5 years by then, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Last Nov we switched all our banking functions to the Firefighters Credit Union. Hubby is a volunteer fire fighter. We love the credit union so much that we're going to close our Regions account next week.

After reading this thread Bank of America problem, Anyone else had to deal with this BS? I was struck by the thought that maybe a credit union would be better than a bank.

Does anyone here use a credit union (CU) as their banking resource? and if so, how does the CU deal with foreign spouses?

DeeBee, you can travel freely in and out of the United States on a 2-year green card and valid passport. You do not need a re-entry permit if you are going to be overseas for only a few weeks.

I traveled to my home country 1½ years ago with only my 2-year green card and passport. Upon returning to the United States, I went straight to the residents/citizens immigration line at the airport.

PS. Also, you may wish to check if you need a travel visa to go to Switzerland from the US. In my case, I didn't need a travel visa for travel between the US and Singapore.

When I was approved at my AOS interview, I got a piece of paper from the AO that says I have to file to remove conditions during the 90 days before my card expires. I set a reminder in my Google calendar right away when I got home.

We were with Directv from end 2005 to middle of last year. Then AT&T had an attractively bundled package for cable TV (tied to Dish) + land line + Internet. It felt too good to pass up so we left Directv and signed on with AT&T.

It was one nightmare after another for 5 months. The AT&T Homezone wouldn't work correctly sometimes in our room, Launchast puked almost every time we tried to turn it on in our living room, and Dish's customer support was the pits. We also had to have the cable box replaced FOUR times because it fried each time.

After enduring this for close to 5 months, I gave my hubby an ultimatum - either he called to cancel the cable TV portion or I was gonna do it and I wouldn't be polite about it on the phone with them. We ran the risk of incurring early contract termination fees (the contract was for 18 months). Hubby told AT&T that his wife was prepared to fork out the cancellation fees if they wanted to lose our land line + Internet subscriptions too. To AT&T's credit, they canceled our Dish Network subscription on the spot, and paid Dish the $177.00 early termination fee.

Hubby called Directv the very next day and apologized so profusely it made me laugh. We've never had a single problem with them, and we're so happy we are back in their fold.

Since I am guessing that any thread is welcome in this forum, I would like to start this one and ask for help...

I currently am a Comcast customer. I was thinking of switching to Dish Network because they have more channels for less money. Besides, they have more international stuff. However, all reviews I have looked at for Dish are basically negative. But, the same is true for comments about Comcast (which I really don't think is that bad).

Please, if you have Dish or Directv, could you tell me if they are any good? Most importantly, how is the picture quality? And, does system crashes offten? If you had comcast and Dish, could you compare them?

lol, I had to take NyQuil D in gel capsule form yesterday evening because I finally caught the flu bug that's been buzzing around a lot this year. Two capsules and half a glass of water later, I passed out for 12 hours. Slept like a baby and felt great this morning coz the fever broke sometime in the middle of the night.

When I moved here from Singapore, I used SingPost to ship all my non-important stuff via sea mail. Sea mail is the cheapest. It cost me about S$110 (I think) to ship 5 boxes of stuff.

I shipped this stuff about 5 weeks before my move because I knew sea mail would take between 8 and 12 weeks. I was in the US for a month before the first of the boxes arrived. It was pretty exciting because it almost felt like an early Christmas.

Several tips that may help your fiancee:

1) Throw out all CD jewel boxes and put all the discs into a CD bible.

2) Organize stuff by categories into plastic storage boxes and then put these boxes into the SingPost boxes. For example, books and photo albums can go into one plastic box, while non-important documents into another. When all my boxes arrived, I simply took out the plastic storage boxes that contained momentos and/or non-essential stuff and moved them up into the attic.

3) Be cold and heartless in packing, no matter how hard it gets to leave stuff behind. I threw out 20 black garbage bags of stuff before I finally packed everything else into the 5 boxes. It was mentally and emotionally painful, but I have no regrets. I can't even remember now what I threw away. LOL.

4) Schedule a pick-up time. SingPost will personally pick up all her boxes from her home.

5) Print a copy of her passport page with her info and a copy of her K1 visa for every box she intends to ship. Write your home address below the K1 visa. Put these right at the top of her things before she seals the boxes.

6) All important and critical documents should be packed in her carry-on bag. Everything else goes into her check-in luggage. On the day of my departure, I had only 1 large suitcase, 1 carry-on bag, and my wedding dress. My brother thought that was a small miracle in itself because I had been a pack rat for a long time.
