I-751: NOA Extension Received and a Haunted Mailbox...

Hi Everyone,

I have a "haunted mailbox", as apparently it was left open all day in the wind and a bit of rain when I wasn't looking...

Sticking out from the mailbox, in plain sight for everyone to see, was an envelope from Vermont addressed to me. And in that envelope was my NOA extension letter (which was dated for last week before they cashed the cheque/check).

I guess staring at the mailbox for too long makes it "haunted"? Either that, or the mailperson forgot to close it when they put the mail in, or it got blown open in the wind. Lol...

So now I can breathe another sigh of relief, in knowing that I can legally stay in the USA for another year after my conditional green card expires.

The next steps: 1)Update the timelines (VJ Member Tmeline and the VSC list thread). 2) Stare at the haunted mailbox again for the next 1-2 weeks for the Biometrics appointment letter...

Ant (Haunted by the mail from Vermont...)

P.S. After my 2yr green card expires, with the expired green card, am I supposed to carry the original extension letter with me or will a photocopy of it suffice in my wallet? As well, it says to send additional evidence if I haven't done so already. But if I already sent the info in my application, do I just ignore that part?

We're wondering the same thing about when the 2-yr expires. I figured carrying around a copy of the extension wouldn't hurt especially since the card is basically useless at that point.

I think a photocopy will be ok, personally I gave a photocopy to my employer and told him my greencard would expire soon but I had already applied for the new one. I didn't send any additional evidence, I think that's just the standard letter they send. I hope this helps.

Hi GinFar and Amnonbabs,

Thanks for your replies and help. On that note, I'll just make a photocopy of the NOA1 letter and carry that around with me, and keep the original in a safe place. After all, if I lose this letter, there's no other way that I can prove legal residency here if my 10yr card doesn't arrive in time (and no, I can't get the stamp in my passport, as my passport will expire very soon and it's a hassle and expesnive to renew it). Won't send in more info though, now that I think about, as the 100+ pages of evidence I sent in already should suffice.
