cancelling visa will affect future travel?

A friend of mine here in Mexico has decided to cancel her fiance visa application (they are at the NOA1 stage). The guy is a middle-class professional (so ok in the money department but not rich) and is very worried about this affecting his future travel to the US. He flies to the US about once or twice every year on his 10-year tourist visa to visit family and friends, and has never had problems entering. They are both concerned that when she cancels the visa he'll have trouble entering the US (even though he has his tourist visa). They probably won't stay in touch, much less attempt to get married, so no need to clarify that when answering. Anyone have experience with a question like this?

Does having a record that you once were the beneficiary of a US citizen applicant make it more difficult to visit the US, even with your tourist visa?

He should be ok, but brining ties to Mexico on visits might be a good idea.
