I agree with DeadPool and others here.

I do believe it's partially the parents' fault. Other blame lies with the state.

Don't get me wrong, I know that child abuse is a HUGE problem, and it needs to be stopped...however, what all the laws have done is prevent parents from disciplining their children. I have a friend who was charged and investigated for child abuse because someone saw bruising on his 3 year old. They were at a supermarket, and the little girl was recovering from (iirc) open heart surgery. Someone saw him, followed him out to his car, and called the cops with his license plate number. Now that's fine, I suppose...since the do gooder really thought there might be an issue, I guess....but if one is abusing one's kid...would one REALLY take the kid out to the store in a tank top where the bruises are visible?

The cops went and saw the kid, and the father explained & showed med records and whatnot. They still arrested and charged him with child abuse, a big fight ensued...he spent 10s of thousands on a lawyer, the kid was being interviewed (A SICKLY THREE YEAR OLD!), they were threatening to put her in foster care....you think a quick call to the surgeon would have put an end to this, but it didn't.

It eventually was sorted out after a year or so....

I know I'm going off on a tangent, but the bottom line is, kids aren't 'fearful' of their parents anymore, cos they're constantly told 'call this agency, call the cops'. I'm not saying anyone should beat their kids, but I know all my dad had to do was give me a look!

Kids don't respect their parents anymore as disciplinarians....that has to lay with the parents' failure for not instilling that....and the state for butting in on normal parenting matters.

agreed

I have a friend who gets ####### constantly from his wife's friends.. because they say 'your son is afraid of you'.. and the mom replied 'NO, He respects his Father', which is different.. I know him, he loves his son, and in no way he is abusive of him or beats him.. he just disciplines him, as a kid should be.. discipline and manners, are never bad.. but I guess the new wave of non-caring parents confuse respect with fear
