Maiden Name in Green Card/Passport

Folks,

Got a quick question. My wife got her CR1 green card last year (nov/2006). The green card has her maiden name; i think it may be b/c her passport has her maiden name.

Her passport does certify that she is married and that her name has changed. But since the passport didn't expire, the passport authority couldn't iisue a new passport with her married name in the front page. As a result the front page of the passport still has her maiden name.

When do you think would be the best time to change the name in the green card to her married name? The CR1 removal of conditions will be done sometime in august (2008) and her passport expires in 2010. Do you think we should wait till we remove the CR1 conditions?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

john

My wife's passport still has maiden name, but whe we filed for AOS we filed using married name, so the green card IS in married name. Name changed in passport is NOT a requirement for the name used when filing the AOS, there is a line on the I-485 form that asks for name on I-94 card, it is that line that gets the maiden name.

You could wait until filing to lift conditions, or you can file I-90 now to get name changed, but filing I-90 now involves additional FEE.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.
