Carried away. Lets go to the UK and ask where would you like to live LA or Sydney.. What do you think the answer will be??

I imagine many people would move to California IF it was possible; however you can't just move

to the US - unlike Canada or Australia.

You must be joking right? That people are moving to Canada and Aus, who have a more stringent points based immigration policy, because they cannot get into the US.

Actually for a professional, it's probably a lot easier to get into Canada or Oz on the points system than get an H-1 visa. You can also get a visa for both countries as an unmarried partner, which you can't do in the US

I think you are confusing a 21st century immigration policy for being easy. The difference is Australian and Canada want skilled professionals. So yes for them it is quite easy.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Again where did you go in LA to make that assessment?

If you can't answer that question - you're comments on the subject would seem to be extraordinarily arrogant.

I don't need to answer it. The 'I N T E R N A T I O N A L' surveys and studies speaks for themselves..

All those "international" surveys you quoted consider the "threat of terrorism" a major factor.

Of course, LA, NY and other major US cities are primary targets for terrorists.

As far as I am concerned, terrorism is near the bottom of the list of important factors.

We want to move back to the west coast, and will if the wife's promotion comes through. I liked LA personally - though my preference would be for somewhere like Portland or Seattle.

Number 6,

I think Boo Yah called you a wanker :P

Hey whatever helps you sleep at night..

Boo-Yah - have you ever been to Los Angeles?

If so, how long did you stay and where did you go?

I have been around LA, holidaying, for about 2 weeks.. Stayed with some friends who live there..

I pass the Canadian and Australian systems with flying colours, yet I couldn't get an H1-B.

Where did you go?

Where do/did your friends live?

Friends lived in Santa Monica. We went all over the place.

I did like Beverly Hills though..

Now San Diego was really nice

What would it prove? People migrate wherever they can.

Retrieve the stats for Mexico and you will find that the U.S. is their top destination.

Does it mean the U.S. is the best country in the world? No, but it's the easiest one

for a Mexican to migrate to.

Mexico is not a rich first world country is it???

PS Don't turn this into a US versus AUS battle. I like a lot of the US just not LA or NYC..

Hmmm... I could be wrong here but I don't think he's the one who brings Australia into every, single bloody thread...

Fine, pull the list of top destinations for British expats, and you'll find that most

of them stay within the EU. Germany, Spain, France.

Why? Because it's easy. No visa required - you can just up and move there.
