Hello everyone,

I’m currently in a serious relationship overseas and we are discussing getting engaged soon with the intention of eventually living together in the United States. I’m trying to better understand the current immigration landscape before making major decisions about engagement vs marriage timing.

I’ve been reading about the recent U.S. government pause/suspension impacting immigrant visa processing for certain countries, and I’m confused about how this affects couples planning to sponsor a spouse or fiancé.

My questions are:

  • If we get engaged now, would a K-1 fiancé visa still be viable?
  • Is there currently a major difference in risk/timeline between fiancé visas (K-1) and spousal visas (CR1/IR1)?
  • For people currently going through the process, how much has the recent government pause actually affected interview scheduling, approvals, or processing times?
  • Are couples delaying marriage because of these policy changes?
  • Has anyone here successfully moved forward recently despite the new restrictions?

I’m trying to make smart long-term decisions and avoid making a move that could unintentionally delay us for years.

Would really appreciate hearing from people with recent firsthand experience, especially anyone dealing with Morocco or international consular processing.

Thank you.
