Are you still married? Even if you are still married, I would wait until you meet 5 years rather than 3.

 

You'll probably have to disclose this during the application, but then you can say you weren't convicted. 

 

If you are still married, depending on how long ago this was, I would ask your partner to go to therapy and do some couple therapy sessions. If anything ends up happening, having the opportunity to have a letter from the therapists supporting that this was something else and not really violence, child abuse, etc., might help your case. In any case, it would help, but I'm just talking in the context of supporting information.
