Auckland - again!

Hi all, does anyone know what the deal is for booking your interview for Auckland? They specifically told me in their instructions DO NOT PAY FEE ONLINE but when I'm going through all the hoops to try and book the interview it won't let me progress now unless I pay the fee online.  Also because I don't live in Auckland I had to select delivery to receive my passport back, so it directed me to the courier payment page which asked for my federal UID number.  No idea what that even is!  So I skipped that step entirely.  I'm so confused!! - should I pay the visa fee online and ignore their instructions??  Any help from anyone who encountered this would be so appreciated right now. 😔
