Case at USCIS HQ?

Hi folks,

I've been a long time lurker here and never really needed to post due to all the helpful info already on here, but the below is something I've never heard about or read about, so I'm a bit unnerved.

I filed I-130 for my wife with a PD of 12/21/2021 and it was on "received" status until 01/25/2023, when it changed to "actively reviewing". Whenever I asked the live agents via Emma what service center is currently processing my case, I was always told Nebraska. Since my status recently updated (and though I'm outside of the processing time window), I can't submit an inquiry since it's been less than 60 days since the last update.

I decided to ask an agent again where my case was (in case it had been transferred) and they told me its with USCIS HQ. I've never heard of this before, so not sure what to make of it, obviously leaving me extremely worried. I contacted another live agent and received the same answer. They told me it's been re-assigned since 12/28/21, so I'm not sure what to make of that either...

Anyone here knows what this might mean? Many thanks in advance!

  • 5 months later...

For anyone reading this thread in the future, I got my approval this past April (~15 months to NOA2) and it came from the National Benefits Center. I spoke to a level-two agent on the phone and they told me transfers, even for non-AOS cases, may be made to other service centers and also the USCIS HQ, field offices, and the NBC. This was news to me, so thought it worth to share here.

For me, my case went from the Nebraska Service Center to USCIS HQ to the NYC Field Office to the National Benefits Center, though it admittedly spent very little time in the last two locations. Just glad to have this step out of the way and hopefully an IL soon 😄
