Hi there! Hoping someone has been in this same situation in the past and has some advice. I originally had an interview scheduled for March, but it was postponed due to COVID. I received a notice in late July informing me of a new interview date on August 18. Here is the order of events since then:

July 26 - Received Notice of Interview in the Mail

July 27 - Called USCIS to ask for a new interview time - I would be (and still am) out of the country

July 28 - Received replay via email that a new interview time would be mailed to me once one was available, got a IOE# for that

Aug 18 - Received failure to appear for interview notice online

Aug 19 - Called USCIS and spoke to a Tier II agent explaining the situation, they said they would issue a service request to the office for me and let them know that my case needed a new interview date got a reference number for that. Was told I’d get an email confirmation, did not.

Aug 25 - Called back in to confirm that my service request had been sent to the field office. The agent confirmed it had been sent, but had not yet been replied to.

At this point I am worried my case will be closed before a new interview date is issued. The agent today suggested I send USCIS a reply in writing as well as to why I missed my interview. I am unclear whether I should mail this to the National Benefits Center (this is the address on my Fail to Appear Notice), or to my local Field office in Brooklyn. Also unclear if I need to ATTN this to someone in particular. The notice itself does not give any of this information, and only the USCIS phone number is included in the actual text of the notice when mentioning I need to respond within 30 days.

Any advice? Thanks so much.

There is a thread with similar situation like yours. You need to call Uscis and request an appointment to see your local officer who is in charge of your file. You will have a chance to explain. Good luck.

Hi Nancy, thanks for the reply.

Do you recall the other thread? A Google search didn't turn up anything for me. I'd be happy to refer to what was already written if the situation is similar.

Did you finally get rescheduled with the field office for the missed interview? Same thing happened to me as the mail was sent to old address and I missed the interview. Called tier 2 and was told to fax a written statement to explain and request reschedule. It has been two weeks and heard nothing from the field office...
