Poll: Almost 70% of Americans would favor an immigration bill that focused exclusively on securing the border

My 2 cents - The big corporations that pull the strings in Washington would lose out big time on cheap labor if the border is plugged............ and most political bigwigs in Washington stand to lose re-election and campaign funds from these companies if they support anything close to a secure border!

A system that needs to be modernized. Lobbyists and businesses should not be able to directly influence the government. If a lobbyist has an issue or proposal they should raise it with an independent panel who can then research the issue. The independent panel should then report their findings to the US congress and house who can discuss any action if necessary. The research should be verified by various accredited bodies to minimize the chance of fraud.

This immigration issue proves that it is time the US return to its roots and the principals it was founded on. I cannot find cheap labor for the rich or businesses in any of the founding documents..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of voters would favor an approach that focuses exclusively on "exclusively on securing the border and reducing illegal immigration." Support for the enforcement only approach comes from 84% of Republicans, 55% of Democrats, and 69% of those not affiliated with either major party.

Overall, just 21% are opposed to the enforcement-only approach.

are we seriously talking about immigration reform and reform EXCLUSIVELY focusing on securing the border and reduction of illegals?

sorry, border protection and reduction of illegal immigration is only part of the equation. Of course it needs to be a big chunk of the comprehensive reform - but exclusive? erm. focusing on the most heated topic is only going to require amendment after amendment as they screw legal immigrants in their quest to "deal with this one issue".

im totally stuck on the "exclusive" statement when discussing immigration reform. to me, that just suggests at any cost.

How would an "enforcement only" approach screw legal immigrants? I think it would do legal immigrants a lot of good. It's the amnesty approach which has been shelved in Congress for the time being that would have screwed the legal immigrants.

thats not what i was saying. I was reacting to 70% of Americans support immigration reform exclusively focuses on border security. erm what about all the other pieces of the pie that make up immigration as a whole. status quo i suppose is fine, but heck if an averge Joe understand what total immigration reform should actually mean.

Wait, it's only one poll, and I'm sure they didn't have a sample size of ten million.......

How is securing the border going to help against the significant number of illegals who are overstays?

In other words, I think lai as it. Border security is important, but it really means fuckall without sanctions on employers or doing something about the millions already here.
