Do you know, if I can send a copy of his passport to prove that he is a US citizen.

In instructions, they authorize it, but I have heard that US passport is not a prove of citiznship anymore. Is it true? Does anybody send just copy of US passport, instead of certif of naturalization?

Copy the complete passport all pages including cover. Passport is proof of citizenship but needs to show an issue date more than 3 years ago.

Your spouse if a naturalized citizen also needs to have been a citizen for more than 3 years.

From form N-400

N400 Part 2 (b ) I have been a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States for at least three years, and I have been married to and living with the same U.S. citizen for the last three years, and my spouse has been a U.S. citizen for the last three years.

Nothing in the instructions, or form indicates that certificate of naturalization is needed to prove citizenship.

Thank you very much.

Why I have to copy all the passport, if on the first page (where there is a photo and signature) there is a issue date (in his case it is 2001)

They just want to confirm that the passport is a complete one and I read that in the guides, I guess someone got an REF for it and they wrote the guide for that.

Example from K-1 guide

Copy of the Birth certificate (front and back) for the US Citizen or a copy of ALL pages of the US Citizen's passport issued with a validity of at least 5 years or a copy of the US Citizen's naturalization certificate (front and back). This is used to establish citizenship.

Is the same in K-3, and CR-1 guides, "ALL pages"
