That exact sentiment, btw, is what Bush has been able to parlay into blind faith.... The idea that "liberals" disapprove of the Christian Right + Southerners in general is a gold mine for Bush to not just get people to the polls (to piss of the "liberals" if nothing else) but also to obfuscate the issues (i.e. "Of course there are WMDs in Iraq - its only those liberals who say that just because they think were stupid!" or so)

Of course, I agree with you. For me, simply reading a few random excerpts from the Book of Mormon was enough to completely deliver me from the Latter Day Saints. Did I mention that it is a wacky religion? I seriously do not mean any offense to Mormons reading this. It is absolutely nothing personal, and I am certianly not setting myself as more intelligent than any of the 12.5 million Mormons out there, ... afterall anyone can make mistakes! what the heck were you thinking?!??!

I think the Christian Scientists are somewhat different as well. Somewhere in America there's a Christian Scientist mom on trial for not taking her sick child to the doctor and letting it die. It seems to happen a lot. I just don't get how someone could put their faith above their child's well-being.

My problem with religion is people letting it get in the way of common sense, (example above) it doesnt matter what you believe its your responsibiliy to treat the kid if he he / she is sick, which brings us to the 'lifestyle choice' vegans whose kid died of starvation after being fed soy milk and apple juice.

We generally respect peoples rights to freedom of religion but when it gets in the way of a rational decision I think thats where the problems start and end.
