Hi Everyone

I just wanted to asked if do you need to take your last name as your middle name when you get married here in US? I have come here with the k1 visa and was married months ago and i got my green card just last week but i noticed that my middle name in the card was my maiden name. I am a filipino and normally you take your last name (your father's surname) to be your middle name when you get married so you will take your spouse's Last name. But what happened in my situation is that In my green card they put my maiden name (my mother's surname) as my middle name so i lost my last name. ex: full name is Alecia Vega Ebal (unmarried).. After marriage Alecia Vega Kolm... So i lost my father's surname and take my maiden name as my middle name now. I dont want to correct the error if it doesnt require because of the long process. My question is, Is this legal? If so will i might be having difficulty to renew, banking and paperwork process afterwards?

If you feel your name is wrong in your green card, send it back and explain how you want your name to appear. As long as you have all the required documents.

As for me, I would suggest you leave it if you have your husband last name (surname) and you are comfortable with that. With paperwork, just submit anything that shows your names when you are handling paperworks if asked
