And in typical fake news format, CNN blames Trump.. LOL.

So much for the Trump bump.

Despite having the most powerful person in the world as a loyal user, Twitter failed to add any new monthly active users globally during the June quarter. Even worse, it's now losing users in the U.S.

Twitter reported Thursday that its monthly user base in the U.S. declined to 68 million in the most recent quarter from 70 million in the previous quarter.

Its global user base was 328 million, unchanged from the prior quarter. Analysts had been expecting Twitter to add at least a few million users.

The report spells trouble for President Trump's favorite social network.

Twitter has been struggling to win more advertising dollars in the face of lackluster user growth. In the most recent quarter, the company's revenue fell 5% from the same period a year earlier.

If Twitter can't grow its user base at all, it will have an even harder time trying to grow its sales.

This is more related to the fact that there are other social media platforms that don't censor people, don't shadowban those who they disagree with, and so on. Twitter is effectively policing out its American audience.

Twitter should be happy though their popularity superseded that of Myspace.

If Facebook is watching, they might want to consider similar ramifications.

Where is CNN blaming Trump for the dip? You state that, but I don't see any "People left because of Trump" statements.

Stating "So much for the Trump bump" doesn't imply that it is Trump's fault the users fell. It's just saying there hasn't been an increase related to Trump.

I never got into Twitter honestly. I never really understood the platform. You can only write out messages in limited characters, so it is intended to be "short" messages/thoughts, but then you can essentially "spam" multiple messages (as far as I know, I don't use it myself) so people still end up posting long rants...just over the course of multiple tweets which ends up being weird.

I'd be glad to see it continue to decline personally (Nothing to do with Trump).

Twitter had actually been a great platform personally when it comes to finding useful information like:

- Music tour dates

- Traffic updates (via #yyc, #yyctraffic, #yycroads, etc.)

- Emergency updates

- Product deals

- Meeting constituents (when I first moved to Calgary I met my MP Michelle Rempel in person thanks to her Twitter feed)

Of course, with recent developments from RFD (Redflagdeals), Groupon, Slickdeals, etc., it's started making that part of Twitter obsolete. Plus live iOS and Android emergency updates (complete with extremely annoying noises if there's a tornado warning or Amber alert). A lot of the conventional uses Twitter had are irrelevant, so combine this with censorship policies and you have an NA audience that goes elsewhere.

That lower viewership affects penetration and thus Twitter's marketability which is why this will have a compounding effect.
