Plus, the accent drives me nuts. Once it was cute...now it's just annoying.

Nice. I'm sure the people on here whose fiances/husbands/wives speak with a Yorkshire accent are thrilled to hear this!

*shrug* I'm thrilled to hear people making fun of my accent every day when I go to work.

No one HERE has made fun of your accent have they? So why feel the need to insult them? Just my observation.

My wise mother used to say "two wrongs don't make a right. Rise above it." Good advice.

It would be a bit difficult for them to make fun of it, seeing as they can't hear me speak.

Should I also withhold any and all opinions about politics and the illegal immigration issue, just in case someone's feelings get hurt?

Prickly, ain't ya? ;)

My whole point was that the people on VJ haven't ever insulted the way you speak. Whether they have heard you or not is irrelevant. MY point was that calling their husbands/wives/fiances accents annoying is a bit rude. It's the UK forum, ergo there will be British people in here, some with Yorkshire accents. I just found it insulting is all.

I wouldn't go into the Russian forum and declare that I disliked their accents (I actually like Russian accents, that was just used as an example!). It is just poor manners in my opinion.

The fact is you obviously have problems with your work colleagues, but please try to separate them from the people in this forum. We are not them, we haven't done anything to you personally, so please don't insult us. :)

Should I also withhold any and all opinions about politics and the illegal immigration issue, just in case someone's feelings get hurt?

But you're not insulting them on a personal level when you disagree with people over these issues.

I don't see that I'm insulting anyone by saying I don't like Yorkshire accents. People around here (Yorkshire) are always saying how much they hate Scouse accents...I don't see that it's any different. However, since it takes two to argue and this argument is pointless, this is where I bow out.

All I know is that it came via DHL. Whether they offer different levels of service through that courier I'm not sure, but he had been told it would take 3 to 5 business days, so whatever that option is ... take it! How long after the interview is the flight booked for? We gave it some extra time just in case something went wrong, so he isn't flying until April 29. Visa in hand on April 13, he doesn't feel that was a mistake. The closer it gets to his departure date, the more he realizes he wants to/has to do to before he leaves.

You can plan all you want, but be prepared ... there's still a million things you won't think of until crunch time! ;)

Well, I tried to be the voice of reason, but he ended up booking a flight a little over a week after the interview once the courier people told him about being able to pay extra for expedited service. I think his reasoning was that his interview's early morning Monday and they should be able to get the visa to him by the following Monday.

Because the lease is up, he'd have to be out of the flat a few days after his flight's scheduled anyway, so most things are packed, sorted and ready to go now. We are facing the possibility of having to file a waiver, though, so the flight he booked can be changed without having to pay anything other than the re-booking fee. If we end up having to re-book because his visa didn't arrive in time, it will be a minor annoyance as opposed to the major heartbreak of having to rebook because his visa had been denied.

If he's approved, I'm sure he'll be running around like a chicken with it's head cut off after the interview, though, rushing to do all the last minute things he'd forgotten about.
