Good Morning,

Just wanted to gather all the same sex marriage experiences as the ones reported have been mostly from 2013 and 2014. I would like to hear the experiences from new cases. I will tell you my story:

Came to the US with a Visitor Visa back in August 2014, I met my now husband two months later (October 2014), we decided we didn't want to be away from each other so we decided we would get married and try to apply for adjustment of statues, At that point Same Sex marriage wasn't legal in Florida so we drove to New York City to get married on December 2014 (2 months after we met). After we got married we opened a joint bank account and we hired a lawyer (As we got married just 2 months after we met) we submitted all the paper work on February (Before my Tourist visa permit would expire). I got my NOA that USCIS was working on my case and I dont lie I was really nervous as I got married with a B1 Visa with someone I had met just 2 months before the wedding. A month and a half after that I got my Biometrics appointment, and a month later we received a RFE as my husbands income wouldn't meet the USCIS poverty guidelines requirement, at that point we needed to find a sponsor; we didn't know who ask as we were a new couple and we didnt know much people at that point (He would have more friends but it was complicated to get some of them to help us as most of them didnt even know he was married) After thinking about all the options we decided to ask his parents to help us out, at first I was super nervous to tell them, but they ended up understanding just fine and very supportive which it made feel probably this was meant to be, we gather all the necessary information they needed and his father ended up being our sponsor, so he sent me all the documents I needed to submit to USCIS. I sent everything to USCIS by the end of April before the due date. By the end of may I was super stressed out as I hadn't heard anything from them, then by the begging of June I got a Case update notification, My I-765 was approved, I was supper exited it was just matter of getting the card in the mail and I could go and get my SSN, Driver license and get a job. Then By July I was able to travel to my home country, I traveled with him as he wanted to meet my family and see my home, we enjoyed a week there and then came back, it was a little stressful going through customs, as I wasn't sent secondary but he never left me alone he was admitted but he went with me and never left me alone, he waited there with me for like 1 hour, then I was called alone the officer requested my I-765 Card (Which it had the Parole info in it) my SSN and asked me a couple questions about my marriage, who was him, how many days we were out, he was very very nice and it seemed just like regular chit chat, we even laughed and then he grabbed my passport and stapled a paper with the info of my entry with the parole and just said welcome back, have nice day; I was so relief it was that easy, just a couple of days before our summer vacation from 2015 (we went on a road trip through the USA on an RV) we got our Interview appointment, we called our lawyer and she sent us a sheet with all the possible questions so we could prepare, to be honest we didn't prepare at all or went through those questions, we just thought real marriages and couple shouldn't worry or need to prepare if its real, we just got a lawyer because we got married 2 months after we met and with a tourist visa that was the only reason; So we enjoyed our summer vacations and we got back we went to the interview, we arrived 30 min earlier, we didnt dressed up either, we went with our regular clothes, the lawyer was there already, we waited like 20 min and then we were called. The lawyer just told us to be calmed and answer all the question he would ask, our officer was a young guy (Between 30 to 40 around) he was very nice and polite, he made us go into his office (to be honest I dont remember if he made us swear or the oath any of that) he brought our documents (which it was a huge file full of papers) and he started to ask me all the questions from the forms and about criminal history and all that, then he started writing something, the lawyer was behind us listening to everything, then he asked me how we met and when, he asked me his date of birth and if somebody knew about our marriage, then I told him to look at the pictures (the ones we had already sent plus the ones I took with me that day) he said he would like to see them, he saw the pictures, and asked us about the people in the pictures, we had pictures together with his family in new york , puerto rico, orlando, miami and my family when we went back on July, we also told him his dad was our sponsor, He asked us for our passports as we told him we flew to my home country to meet my family and he wanted copies of the passport stamps, we then talked about random things such as what I would like to do as of work or study and if I would join the army, then I told him my husband wouldn't let me do it and he just laughed, then he took a couple of pictures and our passports and he said he was going to make copies and he would come back, after 10 min I was REALLY nervous, The lawyer said you guys are doing just fine; when he came back he gave us our passports back and he just said congratulations you guys have been approved, your green card would come in the mail in the next few weeks, I was like WHAT... he just asked us like 3 or 4 questions the most, he never put us apart, we were together all the time seated next to each other I was so amazed it was that easy and it didnt take more than 20 min total (including the wait time for the copies) I was like OMG thank you so much and we left, like 20 min later I got an update notification that my case had been approved, I got my welcome letter like a week later and then my green Card arrived just like a month after or so. We have traveled so many times to different countries including europe, Mexico and south america. Then Last month I had to send my I-751 to remove the conditions of my green card, A week after I sent my package, which we did our selves and added as much information and proof of bona fide marriage without the help of any lawyer, I got my extension letter a Week after, and the my biometrics appointment like two weeks after that, I am now waiting for my appointment and probably will make a walk through as we are traveling abroad close to the appointment date, I will keep you guys updated of any further action from USCIS about this. If you have any question about the topic feel free to ask!!! :)
