Hello everyone. Just before we got our petition sent in, my fiance sent me his birth certificate and a copy of his passport id page, which was stolen from my mailbox. We had to file reports with the USPS, and Barney cancelled his passport as a safety procaution. When we sent in the petition, it had that passport number on it. He is ordering a new passport, but I am wondering if this will be a problem if immigration checks on his passport and finds that it has been cancelled, or later on in the process having a different passport number if that will cause a problem? Any input would be greatly appreciated. PS, this is my first post, so I hope I put it in the right forum!!!!

Hi Jen,

We are in a similar circumstance. My fiance noticed that the spelling of his middle name and his fourth name on his passport did not match our embassy paperwork. He did not use nor want to go by his fourth last name and we did not want there to be a problem with his middle name spelling. When we called the embassy, I asked if we could get the name changed on the passport to reflect the entire correct name, and the employee said that could be an option. So, now we have a different passport number than originally. The old passport number was only on the medical exams. However, we wanted to be completely clear and upfront about the passport change. So, with the K-1 visa packet sent to the embassy, we included a letter in regards to the passport number change; including details of the old transliteration of the name. It's our understanding that the more honest we are with them, the easier things will be. We were given an interview two weeks from when we received the interview letter (at the Egyptian consulate). Hopefully, everything will be fine. Did you find anything else out about the passport number change since you posted?
