Standing before a Miami audience, sleeves rolled up, President Barack Obama was hard at work campaigning for Hillary Clinton.

But, as he sometimes does when he's riffing on the stump, the president took a detour in his speech. This time, to make a point about Donald Trump and the influential faction of conservative media that allowed for his ascension inside the Republican Party.

Heres the thing. Trump didnt come out of nowhere now, Obama said Thursday. For years, Republican politicians and far-right media outlets have been pumping out all kinds of toxic, crazy stuff.

Obama went through a litany of conspiracy theories that have been pervasive throughout his presidency. The birther movement. Fears he wanted to steal everybodys guns. The idea he wanted to declare martial law.

I say all this, the president said, because Donald Trump didnt start all this. Like he usually does, he just slapped his name on it, took credit for it, and promoted the heck out of it.

The president had a point. Trumps rise was no accident rather, a natural outgrowth of a growing and influential faction of conservative media that for years fed the Republican base a steady diet of fringe theories masqueraded as news.

And Republicans allowed it to happen, as Obama noted.

They just stood by and said nothing, even though they knew better, while their base actually started believing some of this stuff, he said.

Obama hinted at one of the first postelection reckonings within the Republican Party. The presidents remarks hit home for a number of Republican strategists and members of the traditional conservative press. Many of them felt that Obama, public enemy No. 1 over the past eight years, had been the one to accurately home in on the problem.

When I was watching the president, I was struck by how he seemed to understand the problems with conservative media more than any Republican does, said John Ziegler, a nationally syndicated conservative radio host and columnist for Mediaite.

It was frustrating to see him be the voice of reason.

Its become a familiar routine by now: Trump supporters haranguing the press at rallies, booing them and screaming at them.

Tell the truth! and CNN sucks! have become staples at nearly every Trump rally. On Saturday night, a new and foreign accusation came to the fore: Lügenpresse!

The term, which means lying press in German, has a history dating back to the mid-1800s and was used by the Nazis to discredit the media. In recent years, it has been revived by German far-right anti-immigrant groups. And on Saturday, it made an appearance at a Trump rally in Cleveland, Ohio.

After the rally finished, one man approached the press pen and shouted insults, accusing the media of being in the tank for the Clintons and being bought and paid for. Another man, wearing a Make America Great Again hat and holding a sign with the same slogan, walked up beside him and began yelling at the press that we were lügenpresse, adding that the phrase means lying press in German. The first man started shouting it too, then turned to the second and made a self-deprecating remark about not pronouncing it right.

squadron of young, rabid Donald Trump supporters is in full-on panic mode. Their U-boat is flooding with water, but instead of drowning with the ship, they're unleashing the torpedoes.

Their target is the media journalists they accuse of rigging the election, an unproven claim borrowed from Trump himself, by pushing a pro-Clinton agenda and spreading lies about the Republican presidential candidate. At a Trump rally in Cleveland on Saturday, supporters railed against the media by chanting "Lügenpresse" a 200-year-old German phrase meaning "lying press" that was used as a Nazi rallying cry.

Early Monday morning, the Nazi call made its way to Twitter. Trump supporters singled out journalists by scrawling a red X over their faces and telling them they'd been added to #TheList for "their crimes against the American people."

Reddit has a sub called thelist with names of journalists. Not sure what the point of singeling every one out..if the list gets to big you would just save the time and say everyone is on the list

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.
