Hello,

I am here on behalf of a friend to try to get some information. My friend has a brother who is now a US citizen and he has submitted a petition to be able to bring her to the US (from Kenya). The wait time is extremely long - supposedly around 11 years. I am in Canada and would like to try to help her to get here and seek asylum as an LGBTQ refugee, because that process would be much quicker. It doesn't matter if she ultimately ends up in Canada or in the US, but we'd like to get her out of her current situation sooner rather than later. My question is - if she makes it to Canada and seeks asylum as a refugee, but her case is denied and she has to return to her home country - will this have any impact on the petition that has been filed in the US or on her chances of eventually getting to the US through a family visa?

Thanks
