Hey everyone, recently something has come up and I need to apply for citizenship fast but the problem is my Selective Service registration is still being processed. Can I apply for naturalization now while my SS registration is still being processed? or do I have to wait till its done. Its been around a month since I send out the SS form by mail. Thank You

I assume of course you are between 18 and 26.

This is rather odd... you've been a permanent resident for either 3 or 5 years (since you are now eligible for naturalization), but you're registering for SS now... I would have expected you to register when you became a permanent resident. Unless you just turned 18, in which case your timing makes perfect sense.

Just wondering, but it doesn't matter... To answer your question, the naturalization process takes time and it may be several months until you are interviewed. You'll need proof of SS registration at your interview, not before then. So there's no harm in applying now assuming you'll be registered by the time you're interviewed.

Never thought of doing that and sounds like it will actually work, thanks. But is it possible if they actually check if I registered with SS before the interview or will they do it all once I'm there?

Anything is possible, I've never heard of that happening.

At the interview, you may have to explain why you waited to register.
