Moving to CA from AZ while I751 is pending

There is a good chance that I will be moving to California from Arizona in the next few weeks, likely before I get the new GC (August filler). My GC just expired, is the extension letter enough for my new (hopefully) employer and for the DMV (driver license)?

While we know your expired GC along with the extension letter should be accepted, some people who are less aware of the ROC process might not want to. I would look for documentation from the state of CA that explains documents that prove legal presence.

Here in FL, the DMV has something called the Acceptable Documents Table. We had to show it to the DL agent while applying for my husband's license during his AOS process. The same doc also refers to the ROC process. I have to believe if FL has a doc like this, CA does, too.

As for employers, hopefully people who work in HR are more aware of the variety of ways legal presence can be proven. If not, having your CA DL should help.

Good luck!

I had an infopass appointment today, and they assured me that my GC + the extension letter should be accepted. I even asked what I should do if they (DMV or employer) give me any trouble and the answer was "they will not." I also asked for a passport stamp and they told me that they only give the stamp if you lose the extension letter and they refused to give me one.

They also verified that the one-year extension is from the GC's expiration date and not from the extension letter's date.
