I have another quick question regarding "originals" The guide states that we should hang onto all originals... does that include signed documents? Such as the G-325A, Should I send in the photo copied version, or the one that has her actual signature on it?

Original documents that are required to be filed are I-129F, G-325a's, Statement of Intent. The reason is that they want ORIGINAL signatures. All other documents filed with the petition can be copies.

That's what I thought. Thank you :)

wlmurray,

The USCIS tells you on their web site how they would like to have petitions and application submitted, all you have to do is read it.

General Tips on Assembling Your Forms for Mailing to a USCIS Service Center

It's not hard to find (unlike a lot of information on the new USCIS web site), only 3 clicks from the Home page.

I'm getting ready to mail in my I-129F forms tomorrow for the first step. How would you reccomend I put it all together? Do I need a binder? Can I punch holes in the papers? What if I just put them all in spiral bound folders, with tabs marking where everything is?

What is the best idea for this?

Thanks!

Chad+Lira,

Use the 'Wayback Machine' to access attorney Mathew Udall's web site from 2 years or so ago, when his reports of his visits to the USCIS service centers were available to the general public. It's still worthwhile and enlightening reading.

Yep, I would love to see what goes on in uscis, ya' know, how they actually 'process' cases.

Howdy. Two questions regarding assembly:

1. How important are the holes? Do they mean holes like this?

---------------
  *    *

---------------

2. What kind of tabs do they mean? Post-it tabs?

Thanks!

Yes and yes.

That's where the holes can go, if you want (but again, you don't have to).

Post-it makes some tabs you can stick on the bottom of the pages to highlight things (I-129F, G-325A, letter of intent, evidence, etc). You can use those.

And/or just make a cover page with a table of contents. Just make sure they can find everything easily.

Also - highlighting important bits (your name on boarding pass scans, passport stamps that are relevant, etc) isn't a bad idea either.
