I-129F Petitioner missed line 10: Social Security Number (SSN)

Hello All!

I appreciate this site so much I wanted to contribute my experience (petitioner) regarding the mistake that I made on my I-129F and its happy resolution.

I sent out my I-129F packet on Dec 18, 2014. About four weeks later I decided to look over my forms (because, as we know, when we are waiting on the process there are many times when we ask ourselves, "what if I didn't . . .). Well. I discovered that I had missed line 10: my SSN! Not only that, but it is the one of the few things in the instructions where it warns you that failing to submit this information is grounds for denial of the petition. My heart stopped! Fortunately, I had put my SSN on the G-325A. But this offered me little comfort the night of the discovery.

The next morning I promptly called the NSCS to see if there was any way to update that form. The operator explained that it was unlikely that I would get an RFE and that I would need to send a letter directly to the processing service center (California). I immediately composed a *very* polite letter, in the same format as the cover letters suggested here, that indicated the mistake, the case reference number, and my SSN. I also included a reprinted I-129F with the updated SSN information, signed, and updated signature date (including the signed attachments for good measure). This was then sent via USPS priority express to the CSC.

1 1/2 weeks later I am happy to report that our NOA2 has been given! No RFE, no convoluted appeal. I, of course, don't know if it was the letter, or just a thorough adjudicator who chose to take the information from my other form. But either way, I wanted to share this scenario just as so many others have been kind enough to share theirs. It isn't always a black hole that one is sending their discovered errors into. If anything, by sending the letter and updated form, I gave myself the peace of mind of knowing that I did the best that I could with my particular situation. That seems to be the common thread to those who survived this process with a loving relationship hosted in this exceptional country.

Cheers!

This is good information, and congrats on your NOA2, and avoiding the black hole that IS TSC.

That being said, your wait time for noa2 was less than two months. Two months. There are petitoners from July and August at TSC still waiting for theirs, and plenty after them facing a 6+ long wait. So please forgive us for not agreeing how exceptional this country is.

"Survived this process."

Again.. two months versus six or seven. just food for thought, not undermining the stregth of your relationship. It's just impossible for those at TSC to really relate you anyone who went through CSC right now, as those who filed in November and December with csc have interviews scheduled, and those filing at the same time will be lucky to see interviews in July or august.

Congrats again.

When filling in your timeline, please understand that all I-129F's are sent to the LOCKBOX in Texas, and then ROUTED (not transferred) to your ASSIGNED service center- the one in Texas "TSC" (not the same as the lockbox!), or the one in California "CSC". If your tracking number starts with WAC, you're at the CSC, you were not transferred! There are no transfers at this time. If your number starts with SRC you're at the TSC and that's where you will serve your entire sentence.USCIS isn't fair.

They don't care about you.

I fully recognize the good fortune that we were given by being transferred to the CSC. I am sure it significantly different for those who wait so long. I would like to correct you on one point: My reference to this country is about this country, the people, the opportuniteis, and the freedoms. Not the bureaucracy, they are not synonymous. :)

You say you were transferred, are you sure you are not mistaken? ALL petitions are sent to a lockbox in TEXAS, this is not the SERVICE CENTER. They are then sent ("routed" NOT "transferred") to the appropriate service center (which is based on your state of residence, most of the east coast goes to Texas Service center, west coast to cali). it's unlikely you were transferred, because the last transfer from TSC to CSC was last august. It's a common mistake, but it would be helpful if you could confirm and update your timeline accordingly :).

And okay, your correction on your statement of this country is accepted ;p

Sincerely,

a grumpy east coaster
