77Greetings,

I currently live in the southeast and will be moving to a state in the east coast in April. My filing date is April first. Should I apply in April from my current state and change my address after one week as I will be moving?

I know you have to spend at least 3 months at the state of filing, that is why I am hesitant regarding the idea to apply from the east coast, as I will be waiting for 3 months to apply.

My advice is that you should move, wait three months and then apply. You'll save yourself the hassle of trying to make sure that USCIS actaully transfers your application and even if they do, there may be delays.

Some people who have changed their address after filing only ended up with delays of a few weeks to a month or two. But others ended up missing their biometrics and interview appointments.

While both choices are allowed, I think it's much safer to apply when you are eligible in your new state. If I were in your place, I wouldn't think twice about it. Just make sure you don't cut it too close to the 3 month limit. It's actually 90 days, but it's better to give yourself a bit of a buffer.

I would move then wait the 90 days before filing. Unless you have extenuating circumstances that make taking your chances with USCIS worth it it's not worth the potential hassle in my opinion.
