I am sure this may have been asked before but I cannot find anything relating to it, so please bear with me.

We (both UK citizens) will be arriving in Jacksonville on the 16th February, we are IR5 (like IR-1 only we are parents) and as such we have no further paperwork to do once we get to the states. Our SSN number should arrive within weeks as that is what we requested on our forms, I gather that it is our entry into the states that will trigger that process. However I am going to be having an interview with the bank that my daughter works for, is it essential to wait for the SSN number or can they interview me based on the visa that I have, knowing that I will have my LPR status and my ssn number will follow??

Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Val

When I entered on IR-1 I waited a couple of weeks for my information to be entered into the system. Then I went to the SS office even though the card should have been generated through my paperwork. The SS office had to do a manual verification and it seems that this happens frequently. I entered the US at the beginning of June 05 and I had my SS card and Green Card at the beginning of July 05.

So my advice would be to wait for a couple of weeks then go to your local office and if you are not in the system it will at least trigger the manual verification. This should speed up the process.
