Dear All , I am going to apply for the US citizenship by filling out Form N-400 for citizenship. I have stopped at certain points which are not really clear to me regarding Part 4 of residency.

I have lived in US for the 5 years and during the past 5 years I have traveled overseas to Malaysia, Singapore and Australia for less than 6 months. During that visit I kept my apartment, employment and everything.

In part 4 of N-400 states to list the 5 years address. Where have you lived during the last 5 years?

Should I mention my address overseas when I visited for less than 6 months or just mention my address in US?

Lets say :

I lived in US apartment 01/10/2010 - 01/01/2011

During that year I traveled for 2 months : 06/03/2010 - 08/01/2010

Should I mention it as US address .... 01/10/2010 - 01/01/2011

or

Should I say 01/10/2010 - 06/03/2010 ( as 06/03/2010 represents the day of my travelling overseas)

and then I say in the subsequent address field 08/01/2010 - 01/01/2011 ( as 08/01/2010 represents the day I returned back to US )

Your advice will be really appreciated.

You state you visited these places. You do not state you lived there for 4 months. It would appear you maintained your residence in the US during these visits. Did you ever call these places home? Or did you always have the intention to return to the US? Even if you spend 9 months in another country, but had the intentions to return to the US and maintained your residence in the US would be considered a temporary stay and not considered living in the other country.

Put your US addresses on the form and list them by the dates you lived there--i.e. had a key, paid rent, received mail, your belongings were inside the apartment, etc. Just make certain the dates correspond with the AR-11 form you completed each time you moved--you did remember to inform the USCIS using the AR-11 form within 10 days of changing your address, didn't you? If not, complete one now for your current address and when you moved into it and then submit your N-400 application.

Good luck,

Dave
