Hello......

We are about to start getting organised to file for a K1.

First question......when the USC has to supply a copy of their birth certificate does it have to be an "official" copy or is a colour photocopy good enough?

Secondly..........I am the foreign fiance in England and I am wanting to self-sponsor. In this case, is it necessary for the USC to have to fill in an I-134 Affadavit of Support?

Also in the K1 guide on this site it says that the USC has to send the I-129F package and some other stuff to teh foreign fiance after NOA2. This seems at odds with the K1 flowchart also on this site. Any clues as to what happens anyone?

Thanks in advance.

helwardman,

A black-and-white photocopy is good enough.

If you don't need a sponsor then an I-134 and other financial documentation from a sponsor is not required.

You'll have quite awhile to worry about the I-134 and sponsorship issues. That part comes after you send the first documents - the I-129F - to USCIS.

As for sending docs to the non-citizen - you should have all the originals with you when you go for your interview. The I-129F process can be completed with copies. Your fiance should keep the originals safely with her (original boarding cards, evidence, etc). Only the petitions with original signatures (the original sig is what is important) go.

And the citizen should keep copies of EVERYTHING as they are sent in. Get ready for a lot of paper sitting around the house.

(You also will need to fill out your own set of G-325A forms and your letter of intent (see the examples here on VJ) and snail mail them to the US citizen so she can include them in the I-129F mailing. Do that now!)
