For one team and its fans, Friday night's high school football game was about more than winning or losing -- it was about an incredible show of support for one of the captains at Garland's Naaman Forest High School, who was on the field one day after losing his mother to cancer.

Dandric Piolet, 17, Instagrammed a note Thursday night, saying "Just letting this all sink in right now. Coming home and finding the woman who breaks her back and struggles day to day to take care of me dead."

Later, Piolet tweeted, "Everyone go home and let your mom know you love her she can be here today and gone the next I never even could think this would happen.”

Piolet insisted on going to school Friday and was showered by love and support.

A picture of classmates praying with him in the hallway has been shared nearly 2,000 times on Twitter.

A teammate wrote Piolet's jersey number and mother's name, Tasha, on tape on his wrist, and fans from the opposing team Naaman Forest played Friday, the Garland Owls, painted Piolet's number on their backs as a show of good sportsmanship for the game.

Fans in the stands also held signs to support the Piolet family.
