Folks,

I have a friend who is asking me what are his options when It comes to last name change after marrying USC and now living as green card holder in the US.

Does this person need to change his last name in Canada now, because he will still need to file Canadian taxes?

Does he still file US taxes ?

He was born outside Canada means he is naturalized Canadian. When time comes to apply for US citizenship (If he decide no plans yet), Can he still keep his Canadian citizenship?

Thank you!

If he is still required to file Canadian taxes while living abroad and he changed his name, then he should change the name on his Canadian docs to avoid any issues.

Every LPR and USC is required to file taxes no matter where they live, unless they are otherwise exempt.

It's up to Canadian law if they allow dual citizenship, and I'm not sure about that. A lot of countries allow you to keep their citizenship when you naturalize somewhere else that I'm aware of.

This does not constitute legal advice.
