Anyone have any experience to share getting funds to the US? I know you take $10K with you but who the heck wants to do that!!! Last time I crossed with a large amount they pulled me in a room...Asked me repeatedly how much money I had...I told them. (less than $10K)The said the amount they counted better be what I had told them. They counted every bill!!!!

It was a crazy experience as they were putting on "blue gloves" as they were talking to me!!! My eyes were bugging out of my head with fear!!!

Only thing that made me feel a little better was they had 2 nuns pulled into secondary!!

OMG...too funny! I could imagine the nun's.

If you already have one here, talk to your banker in Canada. You are allowed to transfer your money into your US account, more than 10,000.

If you don't have an account here can you get to the states to and open one up? You will only need your passport at BofA, you don't need a SSN or driver's license. Then start your transfer process.

Scotiabank is a partner bank with BofA in the states.

I brought a US money order or a US check from my bank in Canada when I came almost 3 years ago and I didn't have any trouble cashing the check in the US. I used CIBC. I just had to wait 10 days for access to the money. I brought enough in cash to last until the check cleared.

just do a money transfer from a Canadian bank to your US based one.

why on earth are you carrying cash across the border?

Even if the Customs guys don't have a problem with it, you certainly do run a higher risk of losing it, having it stolen, etc..

the US is not Canada.

people carry guns for fun here!!!
