Hi Guys,

I am working on the IV packet at the moment. My wife is a mainland chinese citizen who is residing in Hong Kong with me on a dependent visa. We have gotten a police certificate from china, but does she need one also for Hong Kong? She has been living here for just under 1 year.

Thank you

You must get a police certificate if she lived there more than six months.

It is not one per country. It is one per police jurisdiction. So yes you need separate one for HK. Go to the police HQ and apply there. Much faster than mailing.

Hi guys,

I thought I would just follow up on this... I ended up talking to the NVC about a different topic, and asked them about this. I couldn't figure out how to apply for the Hong Kong Police Cert from the instructions. Apparently what has to happen is that I will file the documents without the Hong Kong Cert, and NVC will basically reply back with a letter stating that my packet is incomplete. This will allow the Hong Kong Police to then go ahead and create the certificate. I cannot just go to the Hong Kong Police department without the documents from NVC saying that I need the Police check. So I think everything is all cleared up now., and I thought I would just finish this up so that other people who might run across this thread have the solution.

Yup! You need the appointment letter or some sort of letter from the HK US consulate to give to the wanchai police station. It takes close to 4 weeks - and the police will mail it directly to the US consulate for you.
