Hi - i concur with what everyone said about visiting during the process. Personally - i'd suggest you be patient for a few months - no need in risking things.

Re: Advanced Parole - once you apply it doesnt take a long time and I received 2 advanced Parole documents - you can only use one at a time. Make sure that you have your POE with you - you will be issued another one and the AP will be stamped as such. I used both of my APs pretty quickly - but it did not take long to receive my conditional green card either. You can request more than one AP

I was smart and applied immediately upon arrival. Good thing because a few weeks after i received it my Dad died and six weeks after that my brother died - with the AP i was able to travel to Canada for the funerals without any issues.

All in all it does not take too long - you will both be so busy adjusting to your new life that before you know it, the green card will show up.
