I just checked the NVC document list page (for the umpteenth time) and no, it does not say that the certificado migratorio needs to be submitted along with form DS-230. I think we'll also skip it and submit it at the time of the interview. One less piece of paper that we need to have translated.

i just spoke to my wife and she was able to get the certificado judicial the same day. she called in the appt yesterday, paid the 28,900 pesos fee at bancafe, took her pictures, cedula and payment receipt. her appt was for 12 noon but like many things in colombia she had to wait. they asked her why she needed it, where she was going to travel, they asked for her cedula and told her to wait. a little later they handed it to her. she then went to servientrega and mailed it to me today, i should get it next week. i'm glad she didn't have to wait the 30 days wait time in barranquilla many have posted here, maybe they've changed the process? anyway, gracias a Dios que no tiene que ir a bogota. the certificado migratorio we'll get before the interview in bogota.

I think the one most people said took about 30 days was the certificado migratorio. But I'm not sure.

you could be right. if that's the case i'm glad that the one needed right now is not the certificado migratorio, that would have set us back a few weeks or a roundtrip ticket to bogota.

guys, regarding the I-864, do we get notification that NVC has received it, either by mail or on the automated system or do we have to speak to someone? How do we know if the I-864 is complete or approved? Do they send us a letter? automated response? talk to an NVC agent?

Hey Dude,

Looks like all the folks "in the know" that already have the visas are at the beach!

Seems it is just us here, now.

I called the NVC today (yes, I called many times before getting through) and they said they received my 864 and that it takes 2 to 4 weeks for review, they notify by mail for approval or any problems. You can call in and speak to an operator to find out it it has been approved.

I am still waiting to receive my IV bill, it was sent out the week of the 16th.

My opinion is that they are kinda backed up at the NVC and things are taking a while,

which kinda sucks because I have not had any New York Pizza in a while, and it looks

like I won't get any, any time soon.

I recall from the US Navy, an expression: "Hurry up and wait!"

Sounds like that is "us".

Did you get your DS-230 instruction package yet?

Well if it makes you feel any better, my I-130 has not been approved yet and I never did get the NOA1 for it.

thanks george, seems that everytime i call i get that message that all operators are busy, call back later. well, i got through today and they told me the same. also, the barcode and instructions were sent to me for the ds-230 yesterday so i should get it soon. the certificado judicial arrived by fedex today but i haven't been able to pick it up so they're holding it for me until l i can go on fri . i may just wait until next week to get official confirmation of what to send. you should get you IV bill real soon, probably this week.

i called NVC early this morning and had a slight scare. i say slight only because i remember reading about this in the shortcuts so i didn't panic. i'm posting it here again for you guys that are approaching this stage just in case it happens to you.

the automated system told me that " the NVC has reviewed the packet of forms and found information missing or incomplete." well, i called back and spoke to the csrep and they told me that the I-864 was processed and accepted and that the automated message was referring to the DS-230, which they haven't received. once the DS-230 is reviewed and accepted, then they will schedule an appointment for bogota. I got my wifes certificado judicial on fri so i will send the ds230 with supporting documents today or tomorrow. even though i haven't gotten the official list in the mail yet, which they said they mailed last week, i'm confident that they will ask for more than the copy of the passport, so i won't wait to get it. i'll proboably get it this week anyway.

Yeah, that's the "downside" to getting your I-864 done early -- that message.

What's this about NVC scheduling appointments for Bogota?

i'm not sure if i understood the cs rep correctly but i'll call again later to verify. i think that once the case is complete, the nvc will send the case to bogota. i thought that the cs rep said the nvc would give a date for the interview but maybe the embassy is still doing it? not sure, i'll let you guys know soon.

Wow James the shortcut guy is real. I have never seen a post from you but take this time to personally thank you for all your help. As to us that are done being at the beach, I wish. We are just busy doing things you all will soon be able to enjoy. You will understand. George, you have to call NVC, speak to the operator and just ask the status of your case. I did so every couple of days and just kept saying, "I called and the recording says I am missing documents, act dumb even though you know better. Eventually they will tell you that the I-864 has been processed but they are waiting for approval on your DS-230. It takes longer to process. They will not notify you of the 864 approval. As for the final approval, my was updated on the recording that my case was approved that same day. Others said it was never updated, just keep calling.

James as to the NVC making the appointments. It seems that more documents are now being sent to the NVC instead of taking them to the embassy for the interview. No one knows for sure but it looks like the docs must go to NVC before you can get your interview. Jedknight seems to be leading the pack here for all the rest to follow.
