Hello everyone,

So this is my fiancé and I situation and I am not sure if we have a chance to get the k1 or not..

I am from France and I am 18 and he is 20 we met when I was a foreign exchange student at his school 2 years ago. I was wondering if the fact that we are young a problem and if it's hard to get a k1 if you are from France?

Also he has a job but it doesn't meet the requirements but he does work a lot. So we were thinking having his mother be our cosponsor because she meets the requirements. Will having a cosponsor be a problem at the French embassy ?

We have plenty of proofs that we met and are in a relationship.

And my last question is if we have not a lot of chances to get that visa is it better for us to wait a little longer and have me get a F1 visa and come back for college?

Hey,

I am no expert, but I don't think that the age matters much, as long as you are over 18 of course.

Getting a K1 visa is definitely nothing you can so over night and you have to be prepared that it might be a year before you get your visa and can get married. You being from France shouldn't be a problem, overall I personally believe that it might be easier getting a K1 being from Europe, rather than the far east, since they have more problems with sex trafficking and those sorts of things.

I don't know anything about the cosponsorship, sorry.

An Student Visa definitely is an other option for you, which would probably go a lot faster than the K1.

But I hope you realize how extremely expensive college is in the US. You would have to pay international tuitions which are sometimes four times the amount of what you would pay if you would get married first and then qualify for in-state tuition.... I am just not sure whether you could afford that since you already need somebody to cosponsor for you. ;)

I hope this helped a little.

Thanks! I was just scared that people would be judgemental about our age and don't allow us to get a K1 visa because of that and that being young and needing a cosponsor would be too much! And let's say we don't get the K1 I want to go to college anyways is it still possible for me to get a F1? And that's a great point but my dad is willing to pay for college and if we get married after a few months of me being in college after that we can get married and adjust my status and then I won't pay as much tuition. I am just so confused on what I should do K1 or F1? Can I have a k1 visa application going on and still apply to colleges?
