Hi, my partner and I have sent in the paperwork for myself (English) to marry my partner in the states. He has since come to visit me for a few months and I have just found out I am a few weeks pregnant. Out paperwork is still in the states and is chugging along and so far no hiccups.

My question is what do I do now? Do I need to inform someone? I read all kinds of from him needing to write a letter to say he still wants to marry me - if so who do we send the letter to? The immigration services in the states or here in the UK to needing DNA testing.

I have read that being pregnant makes no difference and that it depends on when and where the kid is born. What I cannot seem to find is an official link to what to do now.

If any one has had this problem or can point me in the right direction I would be most obliged.

Kind regards

At the moment it is sitting in California. I am only 7 weeks so ages to go. I had a request for a piece of paper I forgot in the original document, they have it and are reviewing.

Does anyone know if I have to tell anyone?

Firstly congratulations......

Next breathe......

A few things you need to know and a few things to help.....

Are you the immigrant? If So....

Your child is in all likelihood an American citizen, its citizenship is derived from its father.

If the K1 process takes you past your due date and birth of the child, your USC partner can apply for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad. There are a few hoops to jump through but it is a fairly easy process to do. At the same time you can apply for the child's US passport. So no problem bringing your child to the US.

look here for more info - http://travel.state.gov/travel/living/living_5497.html

If the K1 visa gets processed before the birth, remember that a lot of airlines are very nervous about letting women fly if they are well into their third trimester. You should contact the airline you plan to travel with and get their policy on this.

It might also be worth considering having the child in the UK. Unless you have good health insurance in the US. Its damn expensive having kids here even with insurance.

As to informing USCIS about your pregnancy, I don't know the answer to that one, probably not though. Hopefully someone who has gone through the process with the same story can help you with that one.
