Hey Everyone,

I have a pretty complex question regarding K2 visa holders. My Peruvian fiancee wanted her 10 year old daughter to finish her academic school year in December and then follow to join us in the USA. Right now we are considering our options on how to bring her to the USA. Since she is so young, there is no way the airlines will sell a ticket to her without an accompanying adult. Naturally, I would prefer the mother to pick her up, but given how awful our visa processing has gone (almost 5 extra months in Administrative processing, visa granted last week, not even married yet), there is a very strong chance her advance parole won't even be issued by December.

So this leaves us with two alternate options.

1.) We have a good friend of the family who happens to have a B2. She has offered to chaperone my step-daughter on the plane flight as part of a vacation trip (she would stay with us). This is pretty convenient, but I can see there being some serious issues with customs if they think something fishy is going on. We have spoke to airline customer service. They said it would require some certified legal paperwork in order to successfully take her out of the country without her mother or her biological father (deceased- we have his death certificate for proof) present. We would have no problem gathering these things, but we just don't want it to turn into a disaster, since this would be our B2 friend's first trip to the USA and we don't want to screw things up for her.

2.) I will personally fly to Peru myself and pick up my step daughter. I don't see this being an issue, since my name is on her K2 visa and I would be armed with a certified letter by her mother (she will be my wife by then, obviously), marriage certificate and a copy of her biological father's death certificate. I think this is a very solid option that can easily be used in a desperation situation and there should be minimal hassle, given my name is listed on my step-daughter's K2 visa.

Has anyone encountered such a situation? If so, how did you handle it and how did it turn out? Stories and suggestions are welcome. Thanks
